MLS Preview: FC Cincinnati (9-1-3) at Colorado Rapids (2-6-6)

The Colorado Rapids have one each of their first two matches against FC Cincinnati, recording a 3-1 home win in 2019 and a 2-0 away win in 2021. Diego Rubio was involved in three of the five goals, scoring once in each match, and assisting on an additional goal in the 2019 home win.

The Colorado Rapids is the only team without a home win this year (D3 L3) after a 3-2 loss to Real Salt Lake on Saturday. The Colorado Rapids are looking to avid becoming the fourth team in MLS history to go winless in their first seven home games of a season, with FC Cincinnati in 2021 (9 straight) the last team to do so.

FC Cincinnati is the eighth team in MLS history to collect 30 points through its first 13 matches of a season (W9 D3 L1). Five of the previous seven went on to win the Supporter’s Shield, with the Columbus Crew SC in 2020 the only team since the Los Angeles Galaxy in the league’s inaugural 1996 season yo fail to do so.

Connor Ronan recorded assists on both of the Colorado Rapids’ goal against Real Salt Lake on Saturday and has now contributed to each of the Colorado Rapids’ last six MLS goals (1 goal, 5 assists). Ronan’s six goal contributions in May are tied for the most in MLS with Hany Mukhtar (5 goals, 1 assist).

Luciano Acosta scored two of FC Cincinnati’s three goals in its win over the Columbus Crew SC on Saturday and has contributed to five goals in his last three MLS appearances (4 goals, 1 assist). Since the start of last September, Acosta has 16 goal contributions in 18 regular season games (9 goals, 7 assists).
