MLS Preview: FC Cincinnati (13-2-6) at New York Red Bulls (6-7-8)

The New York Red Bulls won each of their first four matches against FC Cincinnati in all competitions but have managed just one win in the eight meetings since (D4 L3), including being eliminated by FC Cincinnati in last season’s playoffs, 2-1, on penalties in this year’s US Open Cup.

The New York Red Bulls have scored multiple goals n three of its last four league games, including a 2-1 result over the New England Revolution on Saturday, for a total of nine goals over the four games. In their previous 17 games this year, the New York Red Bulls have scored multiple goals in just two games, tallying 11 total goals in that time.

FC Cincinnati has conceded multiple goals in each of its last three matches for the team’s first winless streak longer than a single game this season (D2 L1). The last time FC Cincinnati allowed multiple goals over at least three consecutive games was a run of six straight too end the 2021 season and begin 2022.

Wikelman Carmona scored his first goal of the season after coming off the bench, the New York Red Bulls’ eighth goal from substitutes this year. That is tied for the second-most goals from substitutes in MLS this season with Orlando City SC, trailing only Atlanta United FC’s nine such goals .

Luciano Acosta had a goal and an assist on Saturday, his fifth games this season with multiple goal contributions, behind only Hany Mukhtar’s six. Acosta has 63 goal contributions (27 goals, 36 assists) since joining FC Cincinnati in 2021, as only Mukhtar (83) has had more in MLS play in that time.
