This will be the second MLS meeting between Charlotte and the Crew, with the sides drawing, 1-1, in Columbus on June 18. The Crew are unbeaten in their last six matches against expansion sides (W3 D3, including playoffs) dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
Charlotte FC has won three straight games for the first time in club history after a 4-0 victory over the Union on Saturday. The 4-0 victory was the largest winning margin in the club’s history and the largest by an expansion team since LAFC beat Real Salt Lake, 5-1, in March 2018.
The Crew recorded their 10th win of the season on Saturday, beating the Red Bulls, 2-1. Columbus has not recorded consecutive wins all season, one of two MLS teams without a winning streak this season (San Jose).
Daniel Rios scored all four of Charlotte FC’s goals against Philadelphia on Saturday, the second player to score four times in an MLS match this season (V. Castellanos vs Real Salt Lake in April). It was the first four-goal performance by a player on an expansion team in MLS history.
Derrick Etienne scored in the 80th and 93rd minutes to turn a 1-0 deficit to a 2-1 win for the Crew against the Red Bulls on Saturday. It marked the first time in club history that Columbus won a match that it was trailing entering the 89th minute.
