MLS Preview: Columbus Crew SC (10-6-6) at Portland Timbers (5-9-8)

The Portland Timbers are unbeaten in five all-time home matches against the Columbus Crew SC (W3 D2), including winning the last two. All five meetings between the sides in Portland have been either one-goal Timbers wins or draws.

The Portland Timbers have won only one of their last 10 MLS matches (D5 L4), with four of those ending in 0-0 draws. The Portland Timbers have played five scoreless draws this season, the most in MLS in 2023 after playing a total of three goalless game sin the last four seasons combined (2019-2022).

The Columbus Crew SC have won all three of its matches against Western Conference opponents this season, though all of those came in Columbus. The Columbus Crew SC are looking for its first streak of at least four games against the opposite conference since a six-game win streak during the 2009 season.

The Portland Timbers have been held to just five goals in its last 10 MLS matches, its fewest goals in a 10-match span in the club’s MLS history. The Portland Timbers have been held under two goals in all 10 matches, equaling the longest streak in MLS this season with no team having a longer single-season run since FC Cincinnati in 2020 (12).

After scoring the tying goal against New York City FC at 93:45, Sean Zawadzki has now scored game-tying goals in the fourth minutes of a second-half stoppage time or later in two different matches this season. Prior to Zawadzki, the last MLS player with multiple such goals in a single season was Steven Lenhart (2012).
