MLS Preview: Colorado Rapids (2-9-8) at St. Louis City SC (10-7-2)

Since 2015, the Colorado Rapids have lost four of its last five road games against expansion teams (W1), being held to scoreless in all four losses. the lone win, however, came in its last away match against an expansion team team with a 1-0 win at Austin FC in 2021.

St. Louis City SC attempted five shots on target in its 2-1 road win against the San Jose Earthquakes. In 2023, St. Louis City SC is unbeaten when having at least five shots on goal (W11 D1) in all competitions and winless when they have fewer than five shots on target (D1 L8).

The Colorado Rapids have two wins and 14 goals in their 19 MLS matches this season (D8 L9), tied for the fewest victories at this stage of a season in MLS history. Prior to 2023, the Colorado Rapids have had at least four wins and 16 goals through 19 games in all of its seasons.

On Saturday, Samuel Adeniran became the third St. Louis City SC player with a brace in an MLS match, joining Indiana Vassilev and Joao Klauss. It was Adeniran’s first time scoring in an MLS game, after he scored 27 goals in 57 league games with San Antonio and Tacoma Defiance of the USL Championship since 2021.

The Colorado Rapids played to a 0-0 draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy over the weekend as they had been shutout in three straight games and five of their last six in all competitions. For the season, Colorado Rapids have been held scoreless in 11 different matches in all competitions, the most of any MLS side.
