MLS Preview: Colorado Rapids (0-3-1) at Austin FC (2-2-0)

In their two MLS matches against Austin FC at Q2 Stadium, the Colorado Rapids have earned four points (W1 D1), winning 1-0 in July 2021 and drawing 1-1 in October. truth be told, the home side has won just a single the five gatherings among Austin and Colorado, a 3-0 Colorado Rapids home win in September 2021.

After losing its home opener to St. Louis City SC, Austin FC defeated CF Montreal Impact 1-0 in its final league match at home. After the Verde had won six of their previous seven matches at Q2Stadium (D), that victory marked Austin FC’s sixth in its last 16 home MLS matches (D6 L4, playoffs included) dating back to May 2022.

With just one point from their first four games, the Colorado Rapids have equaled their worst start in club history, losing both of their final two. Colorado hasn’t lost three straight matches in that frame of mind under Robin Fraser, last doing as such during a run of eight successive losses in Spring May in 2019.

In Austin FC’s most recent home match, a 1-0 victory over CF Montreal Impact, Sebastian Driussi did not contribute to the team’s lone goal. Driussi has not scored in any of his 31 home MLS games, going two games in a row against the Seattle Sounders FC and Minnesota United FC in March-April 2022.

In Colorado’s fourth game of the year on Saturday, Cole Bassett scored in the 49th minute to make it 2023 for the club. The wait for the season’s first goal, which lasted 319 minutes, was the sixth longest in MLS history and the longest since Colorado’s own wait of 362 minutes in 2015.
