MLS Preview: Charlotte FC (2-4-3) at D. C. United (3-4-2)

Both sides recorded 3-0 home wins against the other last season, with D. C United winning the season opener in February and Charlotte FC recording a win in August. It was one of three matchups last season that saw each team win a match by at least three goals, (Los Angeles Galaxy vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Portland Timbers vs Sporting Kansas City).

D. C. United has won consecutive MLS matches for the first time since the opening two matches of the 2022 season. The two wins equal the total from D. C. United’s previous 20 league matches (W2 D5 L13) dating back to last August.

Charlotte FC kept its first clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew SC on Saturday. After opening the season with three straight defeats, Charlotte FC has lost only one of its last six matches (W2 D3), the first time its lost only once in a six-match span in the club’s MLS history.

Mateusz Klich recorded assist on two of D.C. United’s three goals in its 3-1 win over Orlando City SC on Saturday. Three of Klich’s four MLS assists this season have been primary assists, with all three of those setting up headed goals, the only player to record three primary assists on headed goals this MLS season.

Karol Swiderski scored Charlotte FC’s lone goal in its win over the Columbus Crew SC on Saturday. It was Swiderski’s 12th goal for Charlotte FC in MLS, five more than any other player, while his eight assists are also a club high. Swiderski’s 20 MLS goal contributions are nine more than other player on the club (B. Bender – 11).
