MLS Preview: Charlotte FC (0-3-0) Orlando City SC (1-0-2)

Last season, Orlando City SC prevailed 2-1 in both meetings with Charlotte FC. In 2022, the Lions, along with the CF Montreal Impact and Toronto FC, were one of only three teams to defeat Charlotte FC twice in MLS play.

For the third time in club history, Orlando City SC is unbeaten (W1 D2) after three MLS seasons (2016, 2021). Orlando has kept a perfect sheet in both of its home association coordinates and could record three straight home shutouts without precedent for the club’s set of experiences.

For the second season in a row, Charlotte FC has started the season with three losses in a row. After their first three defeats, Charlotte FC only lost two of their seven matches the previous year (W4 D1).

Duncan McGuire scored in his MLS debut Saturday against DC United, becoming the fourth Orlando City SC player after Kaká, Stefano Pinho, and Daryl Dike to score in their first MLS game. Only Dike scored in each of his first two MLS games out of those.

At 55.7 percent, Charlotte FC’s possession percentage against Atlanta United FC on Saturday was the third-highest of the MLS season. In fact, Seattle Sounders FC and Charlotte FC are the only two teams this season to win possession battles in three games.
