MLS Preview: Atlanta United FC (8-10-9) at Philadelphia Union (15-4-9)

The Union are unbeaten in their last four regular season games against Atlanta United (W2 D2) after losing three in a row to the Five Stripes in 2017-18. Atlanta won the only playoff meeting between the sides, a 2-0 victory in the 2019 postseason.

The Union’s 6-0 win over Colorado on Saturday was its fourth win by six or more goals, the most by a team in MLS history, surpassing Sporting Kansas City’s three victories (1999, 2018, 2019). All four of those Union wins have come in their last 10 matches.

All three goals in Atlanta United’s win over D. C. on Sunday were headers, the first time the Five Stripes have scored three headed goals in a single MLS match. Atlanta has not recorded consecutive win in nearly a year, since a three-match winning streak last September.

Philadelphia has scored 25 goals in its last five home matches, three more than any other team in a span of five home matches in MLS history. The Union have outscored opponents 25-2, in those games.

Josef Martinez has scored seven goals in seven games against the Union in MLS, averaging 1.02 goals per 90 minutes. The Union is one of 11 team Martinez has averaged at least one goal per 90 minutes against in his MLS career.
