MLS Preview: Atlanta United FC (7-9-7) at FC Cincinnati (8-8-8)

FC Cincinnati’s only win in its nine MLS meetings with Atlanta United came at MLS is Back in 2020 (D3 L5). The 1-0 win at MLS is Back is one of two clean sheets Cincinnati has kept against Atlanta along with a scoreless draw on April 16 this season.

FC Cincinnati ended a seven-match winless run (D6 L1) with a 3-1 victory over the Union on Saturday. The win marked the sixth time this season that Cincinnati has scored at least three goals in a match, something they achieved only five times in their first three MLS seasons combined.

Atlanta United won for just the fourth time in its last 18 MLS matches (D6 L8) on Saturday, beating the Sounders, 2-1. Atlanta has not won consecutive matches since last September, following up its last 11 wins with a draw five times and a loss six times.

Either Brenner (8) or Brandon Vázquez (7) have scored 15 of FC Cincinnati’s last 18 MLS goals (excluding own goals) dating back to mid-June. Only seven teams, besides FC Cincinnati, have scored more goals than the pair in that time.

Josef Martínez has gone six straight MLS appearances without a goal contribution for the first time in his career. Martínez has scored six goals in five career MLS matches against Cincinnati, finding the net in all four of his starts against them.
