MLS Preview: Atlanta United FC (12-8-9) at D.C. United (9-12-8)

Atlanta United FC has won each of its last five meetings with D. C. United, including a 3-1 victory on June 10. None of the 15 regular-season meetings between the sides have been drawn, the second-most played matchup without a draw in MLS history (FC Dallas vs Tampa Bay Rowdies – 18 meetings).

D. C. United has lost one of its last five regular-season home matches (W2 D2), including keeping clean sheets in each of the last two. This is the first time D. C. United has kept consecutive home clean sheets in league play since late 2019, something they last did in three straight home matches in August-October 2014.

Atlanta United FC has lost only one of its last six matches in all competitions (W3 D2, including a penalty shoot-out loss), with that defeat coming against league-leading FC Cincinnati. Atlanta United FC scored 11 times in its three wins in that stretch.

Christian Benteke won 13 of 20 aerial duels in D. C. United’s draw Charlotte FC on Saturday. It marked the eighth time time this season Benteke has won 10 or more aerial duels in a match, something all other MLS players have done seven times combined in 2023.

Brooks Lennon recorded a goal and an assist in Atlanta United FC’s win over Inter Miami FC on Saturday, taking his totals to four goals and 10 assists this season, both single-season career highs. Lennon is the only American among the 10 players with at least 10 assists this regular season.
