MLS Decision Day Preview: CF Montréal Impact (12-16-5) at Columbus Crew SC (15-9-9)

The CF Montréal Impact have won two of its last three visits to Columbus going back to 2020 after winning just one of its first 12 away matches against the Columbus Crew SC (D2 L9). CF Montréal Impact are the only visiting team with two wins at the Columbus Crew SC since the start of the 2020 season.

The Columbus Crew SC has lost only one of its last 26 home matches in all competitions, including collecting 37 points (W1 D4 L1) in regular-season home matches this year. With a win on the final day, the Columbus Crews SC would break the current club record of 38 home points in a season (2017).

Only Toronto FC (4) has collected fewer points away from home than the CF Montréal Impact (8 – W2 D2 L12) in 2023. Last season, CF Montréal Impact recorded 11 road wins, the most by any team in the post-shootout era (since 2000), three more wins they they have road points this year (8).

Cucho Hernandez scored the Columbus Crew SC’s lone goal in its 1-1 draw with Atlanta United FC on October 7, his ninth goal since the beginning of September, the most of any player in MLS in that time. Hernandez’s 15 goals this season are the most by a Columbus Crew SC player since Gyasi Zardes scored 19 times in the 2018 season.

Kwadwo Opoku, Sunusi Ibrahim, and Mathieu Choiniere each had a goal and an assist in CF Montréal Impact’s win over the Portland Timbers on October 7. It as the third time in club history that three different players had a goal and an assist in a match for the CF Montréal Impact, with the club also having trios record the feat in 2020 and 2022.
