TIGERS DROP OPENER TO BLUE JAYS: The Tigers lost the series opener to the Blue Jays, 12-2, last night. Matt Vierling had three hits and drove in a run, while Spencer Torkelson added a hit and a RBI. Andy Ibáñez, Zach McKinstry and Jake Rogers each contributed a hit. Alex Faedo started for Detroit and took the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Mason Englert tossed 2.1 scoreless frames with two hits allowed and a walk. Brendan White and Chasen Shreve each pitched a shutout inning.
ROSTER MOVES: The Tigers have announced the following roster moves:
*Following last night’s game, optioned RHP Alex Faedo to Triple A Toledo
*Designated INF Jonathan Schoop for assignment
*Reinstated RHP Beau Brieske from the 60-day injured list
*Reinstated OF Riley Greene from the 10-day injured list
MULTI-HIT MATT: Matt Vierling notched his eighth game with three-or-more hits last night, finishing the contest 3×4 with a RBI. Since being reinstated from the injured list on June 12, Vierling has hit .386/.456/.600 with two doubles, two triples, three home runs and nine RBI. Among qualified American League hitters in that span, he ranks first in batting average and on-base percentage, fourth in slugging percentage and fifth in OPS (1.056).
WELCOME BACK RILEY!: Riley Greene returns to the Tigers lineup today after being sidelined since May 31 with a left fibula stress reaction. Prior to his injury, Greene was one of the best hitters in baseball during May. In 25 games during the month, he hit .365/.435/.573 with nine doubles, one triple, three home runs and
11 RBI. He led all qualified American League hitters in batting average during May, while he was fourth in on-base percentage, fifth in OPS (1.008) and seventh in slugging percentage.
TIGERS AND BLUE JAYS: The Tigers and Blue Jays continue their second series of the season this afternoon. Toronto has won three of the first four meetings against Detroit this season. The Tigers went 2-5 against the Blue Jays last season, including a 1-2 record at Comerica Park.
AT COMERICA PARK: The Tigers are 1-3 on their current six-game homestand, which includes three games vs. Oakland (1-2) and three games vs. Toronto (0-1). Detroit is 19-24 at Comerica Park this season. The Tigers are hitting .241/.313/.374 as a team at home, while the pitching staff has a 4.65 ERA (395.0IP/204ER).
INJURY REHAB UPDATE: Trey Wingenter continued his injury rehab assignment with Triple A Toledo last night, throwing an inning out of the bullpen and allowing a run on two hits with a walk. Wingenter has been sidelined since April 22 with right biceps tendinitis.

- Has faced the Blue Jays only twice in his career and has a 0-1 record with a 3.75 ERA (12.0IP/5ER)…pitched against Toronto earlier this season on April 11 in Toronto and took the loss, giving up four runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts…in 17 career starts at Comerica Park, he has a 4-5 record with a 3.99 ERA (88.0IP/39ER) and 61 strikeouts.
- Returned to the active roster on June 27 at Texas, allowing two runs on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 5.2 innings…had been sidelined since April 12 with a right foot fracture.
- Was limited to 12 starts during the 2022 season after missing much of the season due to injury…went 2-3 with a 3.43 ERA (63.0IP/24ER) and 48 strikeouts in 12 starts.
