THE J-ROD SHOW IS MUST-SEE TV…since July 1, Julio Rodríguez is batting .344 (97×282) with 48 runs, 21 doubles, 1 triple, 17 home runs, 57 RBI and 18 stolen bases, getting on base at a .389 clip and slugging .606 (.996 OPS)…since Aug. 4, he is batting .395 (64×162) with 31 runs, 14 doubles, 1 triple, 13 home runs, 41 RBI and a 1.168 OPS…overall this season, Julio leads the American League in hits (174), ranks 2nd in the AL in total bases (303) behind Shohei Ohtani-LAA (325), 3rd in RBI (99), T-4th in extrabase hits (67), 7th in home runs (30), 5th in runs (95) and 3rd in stolen bases (36). Playing the Hits – J-Rod leads the AL in hits this season with 174, ranking ahead of Marcus SemienTEX (171 H) and Bobby Witt Jr.-KC (165 H)…if he finishes with the league lead in hits, he will become just the 3rd player in franchise history to lead the AL in hits, joining Alex Rodriguez (1998) and Ichiro Suzuki (7x, 2001, 2004, 2006-10) and just the 9th player age 22-or-younger to lead the AL in hits… he would join Ty Cobb-DET (3x, 1907-09), Dick Wakefield-DET (1943), Harvey Kuenn-DET (1953), Al Kaline-DET (1955), George Brett-KC (1975), Rickey Henderson-OAK (1981), Cal Ripken Jr.-BAL (1983) and Alex Rodriguez-SEA (1998).

TEO THE TERRIFIC…Teoscar Hernández had his 30-game on-base streak snapped in yesterday’s game (8/15-9/16)…the streak was the longest by a Mariners player this season, surpassing Julio Rodríguez (27 G, July 1-Aug. 2), the longest on-base streak by a Mariners player since Robinson Canó’s 34-game on-base streak from April 30-June 5, 2016, and the 28th streak of at least 30 games in franchise history… Since August 1, Teo is batting .323 (54×167) with 21 runs, 11 doubles, 9 home runs and 30 RBI, getting on base at a .359 clip and slugging .551 (.910 OPS).

PITCH PERFECT…the Mariners pitching staff leads the Majors in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.60), walksper-9 innings (2.53) and ERA (3.74), while ranking 3rd in fewest runs allowed (612), 2nd in fWAR (20.1), T-2nd in WHIP (1.18), 2nd in FIP (3.82), 2nd in quality starts (69), T-5th in opponent batting average (.236), 7th in strikeouts (1,351), and 8th in strikeouts-per-9 innings (9.11).

STEADY SHORTSTOP…J.P. Crawford went 2-for-4 with 1 double, 1 walk and 1 RBI in yesterday’s game, tying his career-high of 54 RBI previously registered during the 2021 season…the Mariners shortstop this year has already tallied career-highs in home runs (15) and walks (83) and is on pace to set career-highs in on-base percentage (.378), slugging (.425) and OPS (.803)…among qualified Major League shortstops this season, Crawford ranks 7th in fWAR (4.1), 2nd in wRC+ (130), 2nd in OBP and 5th in OPS.

CAL RALEIGH IS QUITE A CATCH…Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has 16 home runs over his last 50 games (7/22-c) batting .258 (47×182) with 30 runs, 8 doubles, 33 RBI and a .896 OPS during that span… he leads Major League catchers with 28 home runs overall this season and leads AL catchers in fWAR (4.3) trailing only William Contreras-MIL (4.7 fWAR) and Sean Murphy-ATL (4.4) for the MLB lead among catchers…with 2 more homers this season, #29 would become the 29th catcher in MLB history (min. 60% of games at catcher) with a 30+ home run season.

THE 100 RBI CLUB…Julio Rodríguez (99 RBI), Teoscar Hernández (89 RBI) and Eugenio Suárez (88 RBI) all have a chance to reach 100 RBI this season…they could become just the 7th trio of Mariners with 100 RBI in a season and the first since Bret Boone, Mike Cameron and Edgar Martinez in 2001…only 18 different players in franchise history have had 100 RBI in a season, most recently done by Mitch Haniger (100 RBI) and Kyle Seager (101 RBI) in 2021.

  • The 23-year-old right-handed pitcher is scheduled to make his 16th Major League start and 1st career start against Los Angeles-NL. Selected by Seattle in the 6th round (174th overall) of the 2021 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Cal Poly University… signed by Mariners scout Chris Hom. Spent 3 seasons at Cal Poly before being drafted, making 31 appearances (6 GS) for the Mustangs. Did not pitch in 2021 while recovering from right elbow surgery.

AMONG MARINERS GREATS…Woo’s 76 strikeouts are the 6th most in Mariners history in a pitcher’s first 15 career starts, he trails Michael Pineda (94), Félix Hernández (94), Logan Gilbert (84), George Kirby (81) and Roenis Elías (80).

IN THE WIN COLUMN…Woo earned his 1st career win on 6/22 against New York-AL…he carried a no hitter into the 6th inning before giving up a 1-out single to Gelyber Torres…he became the 5th Mariners pitcher this season to carry a no-hitter into the 6th inning (also: Bryce Miller, Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo, Easton McGee).

OAKLAND ATHLETICS NOTES:

ABOUT THE A’S: Were swept by the Padres to start the homestand…it was the 18th time the A’s have been swept this year, which is an Oakland record and the most by an A’s team since 1960 Kansas City A’s were swept 19 times…the loss on Sunday dropped the A’s 57 games under .500 for the first time since the Philadelphia A’s finished the 1920 season 58 under at 48-106…the loss was the A’s 103rd of the season, which surpasses last year (102) for second most in Oakland history…the Oakland record is 108 in 1979…this is the third 100-loss season in Oakland history and the 18th in Athletics history…it is the first time the A’s have lost 100 games in back-to-back seasons since the Kansas City A’s did it in 1964 (105) and 1965 (103)…the 205 losses over the last two years are their most in consecutive seasons since 1964-65 (208)…have lost four straight and six of the last eight games and are 12-13 dating back to Aug. 21…are 46-103 (.309) overall, which is the lowest winning percentage in the majors behind the Royals (48-102, .320).

RUN DIFFERENTIAL: The A’s lost 10-1 yesterday, which marks the 16th time this year they have lost a game by nine or more runs…that is the most in American League or National League history since 1901…have a run differential of -316, which is the lowest in the majors…the last time the A’s were outscored by 300 or more runs was in 1954 (-333).

STARTING PITCHING: A’s starting pitchers are 17-64 with a 5.81 ERA…have the fewest wins in the majors, the second highest ERA and are tied for the second most losses…the fewest wins from starting pitchers in Major League history is 21 by the Pirates last year…the ERA is currently second highest in Oakland history (5.94 in 1997)…have tossed one inning or fewer 13 times, three innings or fewer 30 times and fewer than five innings 63 times…have a 17-30 record when pitching enough innings to qualify for the win…have logged 7.1 innings or fewer in each game and have the fewest innings pitched in the majors (670.1)…will set an Athletics record for fewest innings pitched by starting pitchers in a full season (previous: 824.1 in 2018).

THE BULLPEN: The A’s bullpen has a 5.29 ERA, which is the highest in the majors and is currently the highest in Oakland history (5.22 in 1980)…has the most losses in the majors (39) and the second most innings pitched (636.1)… has 341 walks, which is third most by a bullpen in Major League history (Tigers, 347 in 1996; Pirates, 343 in 2000)…in addition to walks, has also set Athletics single-season records for most losses and runs allowed (405) by relievers…has the second most innings (record is 641.1 in 2018) and hits (620, record is 678 in 1997) and the third most strikeouts (580, had 627 in 2018 and 603 in 2019) and home runs (78, had 92 in 1964 and 81 in 2017)…is 27-for-52 (51.9%) in save opportunities…is tied for the third fewest saves in the majors and has the fifth lowest save percentage…has allowed 104-of-265 (39.2%) inherited runners to score, which is the third highest percentage…has the second most inherited runners.

HIT BATTERS: His 15 hit batters are an Oakland single-season record and tied for 14th most in Athletics history…however, has the most hit batters by an A’s pitcher over the last 112 years…the last time an A’s pitcher had 15 or more hit batters was in 1911 when Cy Morgan had 21 and Jack Coombs had 16…14 of his 15 hit batters are right-handed hitters.

THE LONG BALL: Has not allowed a home run in his last three starts after yielding six over his previous three…has allowed 31 for the season and is the 14th player (16th time) in Athletics history to allow 30 or more home runs in a season…is one of two left-handers to do it (Curt Young, 38 in 1987)…his 31 home runs are tied for 10th most in Athletics history and are the most since A.J. Griffin had 36 in 2013…19 of the 31 home runs are solo shots.
