MLB Preview: Seattle Mariners (76-57) at New York Mets (61-73)

SEATTLE MARINERS NOTES:

TONIGHT’S TILT…the Mariners open an 11-day, 10-game, 3-city road trip with the 1st of 3 against the New York Mets…the Mariners will also play the Cincinnati Reds 3 G, 9/4-6) and Tampa Bay Rays (4 G, 9/7- 10) on the current road trip…the Mariners are coming off a 5-1 homestand against the Oakland Athletics (2-1) and Kansas City Royals (3-0)…tonight’s game vs. the Mets will be streamed live on APPLE TV+ with Wayne Randazzo and Dontrelle Willis on the call and Heidi Watney as the sideline reporter…the game will also be broadcast live on Seattle Sports (710 AM) and Mariners.com with Rick Rizzs and Aaron Goldsmith on the call.

ODDS AND ENDS…the Mariners won Wednesday’s game 5-4 over the Athletics, securing the series win…the Mariners are 13-2 over their last 15 games, 21-5 over their last 26, 23-6 over their last 29, 26-7 over their last 33, 29-9 over their last 38 and 38-15 over their last 53 games…the Mariners are 59-20 when scoring at least 4 runs and 17-37 when scoring 3-or-fewer…the Mariners are 39-29 at T-Mobile Park and 37-28 on the road this season…they are 26-21 in day games and 50-36 at night. ROSTER MOVES: With active rosters expanding to 28 players today, the Mets have made the following moves: RHP José Butto, INF Ronny Mauricio and INF Brett Baty have been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse…INF Danny Mendick was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

LAST TIME OUT: In his last start on August 25 against Los Angeles-AL, Senga threw 6.2 innings allowing four hits, two runs with three walks and 10 strikeouts…He recorded his third double-digit strikeout game of the season to become the first Met rookie since Noah Syndergaard (5 games in 2015) to accomplish the feat…Additionally, Senga became the first Japanese-born rookie since Masahiro Tanaka (5 games in 2014) with three or more double-digit strikeout games.

HARD TO HIT: This season, Senga has three starts of 7.0 or more innings and two or fewer hits allowed, tied with Shohei Ohtani and Reid Detmers of the Angels for the second-most such starts this season…That is tied with Dwight Gooden for the most such starts by a Mets rookie in a single season…Only Nolan Ryan (4, 1970) and Jacob deGrom (5, 2015) have had more such starts in a single season in franchise history.
