HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS
- The Rockies continue a six-game homestand tonight with the second of three games against the San Francisco Giants, the first time they are meeting the division rival this year … welcome the San Diego Padres for three games Friday-Sunday.
- Concluded a seven-game road trip Sunday at Kansas City … after getting swept by Arizona in a four-game set, the Rockies took two of three from the Royals to win the series.
- The Rockies enjoyed an off day Monday, the club’s first since May 18 … beginning yesterday, they are in the midst of a stretch of 16 straight days with a game before their next off day on June 22, for a total of 33 games in 34 days from May 19-June 21.
- At home since April 30, the Rockies are 12-6, a .667 winning percentage that trails only the Dodgers (12-4, .750).
ABOUT LAST NIGHT
- The Giants and Rockies combined for 15 extra-base hits Tuesday night (12 doubles and three triples) … it marked the eighth time in the Modern Era that two teams have totaled as many extra-base hits in a game without hitting a home run, the first time since June 1, 2003 (Boston at Toronto) … the Rockies were part of one other such contest on April 27, 2002 against the Reds at Coors Field … the Giants (New York) had one other such game on April 11, 1912 against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
- Rockies’ pitching set season highs with 11 free passes and 16 strikeouts, becoming the first team in Major League history to match those numbers in a nine-inning game … fourth time in MLB history, first for the Rockies, that a team allowed 10 or more earned runs while striking out at least 16 in a nine-inning contest.
- Colorado became the first team this season to allow eight doubles, their 12th time in franchise history matching or surpassing this mark (last: Oct. 2, 2021 at Arizona) … nine of 12 instances have come at Coors Field.
MAC ATTACK
- Third baseman Ryan McMahon has reached base in 13 of his last 14 with eight multi-hit games through this stretch … since May 25 ( 12 games), is slashing .438/.500/.896 with five doubles, one triple, five home runs and 16 RBI … his RBI match a career high through any 12-game stretch.
- McMahon’s 1.8 WAR (Baseball Reference) is fourth-best among all NL third basemen … his eight defensive runs saved at third base are tied with Ke’Bryan Hayes for the most among third basemen (via. Sports Info Solutions).
- Among NL third basemen, ranks second in batting (.286), slugging (.516) and doubles (15), is fifth in walks (18) and sixth in RBI (27) (numbers exclusively as third baseman).
- Over 10 games May 25-June 3, McMahon went 19-for-39 (.487) with 11 runs scored, three doubles, one triple, five home runs, 15 RBI, six walks (.556 OBP) and 10 strikeouts, becoming the first Rockies player with 19 hits, nine extra-base hits and 15 RBI in a 10-game span since Charlie Blackmon in 2019 … he became the third player in franchise history to put up those numbers while also walking six or more times, joining Todd Helton (2000 and 2001) and Larry Walker (1997) … the last player in the Majors with a 10-game stretch with these numbers was Freddie Freeman with the Braves in September 2020.
BATTER UP
- The Rockies’ .293 batting average with runners in scoring position is the second-highest mark in the Majors trailing the Texas Rangers (.337), the highest in the NL with the closest team, Washington, recording a .268 average … at this point in the season, that mark is the sixth-highest in franchise history, the team’s highest mark since 2000 (.309).
- The Rockies’ .263 RISP average in 2022 was the ninth-lowest for a season in franchise history, while the team’s .252 mark in 2021 was the third-lowest and their .248 average in 2020 was the second-worst.
BABY GOT BACKSTOP
- Rockies catcher Elias Díaz’s .306 batting average ranks seventh in the National League … his .366 (34- for-93) average at home is the second-highest in the Majors while his .396 (21-for-53) average with runners in scoring position is the fourth-highest in the NL.
- Has appeared in 51 games at catcher, the second-most in the Majors … his 11 catcher caught stealing are tied for the second-most in the Majors … 1.3 dWAR (Baseball Reference) the second-highest mark among all players, the best among all catchers.

- Designated for assignment by Boston, Jan. 12, 2023 … acquired by Colorado via trade for cash considerations or a player to be named later, Jan. 17.
- Rated by Baseball America as having the best changeup in the Red Sox system in 2021 and best control in 2022 … also ranked by Baseball America as one of the Red Sox top prospects in 2021 (No. 11) and ‘22 (No. 21).
