SAN DIEGO PADRES NOTES:
Padres break 6-game losing streak with 12-5 win over the Reds
- The Padres plated 4 runs in the 6th and 5 in the 7th and saw home runs from Manny Machado (2 HR) and Juan Soto… Fernando Tatis Jr. doubled, and Trent Grisham tripled…Soto finished with his season-high-tying 4 RBI, and both Tatis and Machado had 3 RBI apiece.
- Padre batters went 5-for-9 with RISP, and their 12 runs plated were their 3rd most in a game this season.
- On his 32nd birthday starter Michael Wacha got the win and went 5.0 innings with 1 run allowed on 5 hits with 4 SO and 2 BB…Nelson Cruz also celebrated his birthday yesterday (turned 43), and he went 2-for-5, becoming the 1st 43-yearold to log a hit since Ichiro Suzuki in 2017.
Friars look to take series in today’s rubber game
- While the Padres have lost 9 of their last 12 games, they snapped their season-long 6-game skid yesterday afternoon and have a chance to take the series over the Reds today…a win today would be their 1st since taking 2 of 3 over the Rays from June 16-18 (was also a rubber match win).
- The Padres have yet to have a winning streak of longer than 3 games so far, and they have yet to sweep a team in a series longer than 2 games…San Diego hasn’t been at .500 since May 11 (19-19).

- San Diego batters have hit just .213 when they’re trailing in the game, the 3rd lowest clip of any team when they’re behind (ahead of just the Pirates’ .211 and Brewers’ .198).
Padres 86 extra-base hits off southpaws ties for MLB lead
- The Padres hit a 34 homer runs off left-handed pitchers this year, the 4th most in the Majors…their 86 extra-base hits vs. LHP overall rank tied with the Phillies for the most of any team in the big leagues.
