OAKLAND ATHLETICS NOTES:

ABOUT THE A’S: Won two of three from the White Sox to close out the last homestand…are 3-3 over the last six games and 11-13 over the last 24…are 23-63 (.267) overall, which is the worst record in the majors behind the Royals (25-60, .294)…the last two Major League teams to finish with a winning percentage under .290 are the 2003 Tigers (43-119, .265) and 1962 Mets (40- 120, .250)…are 4-5-1 over the last 10 series after going 1-16 over the first 17 series…have swept one series but have been swept 11 times.

THE FOURTH OF JULY: The A’s and Tigers are scheduled to play on the Fourth of July for just the fourth time in 123 years…have won two of the first three games, winning 2-1 in Oakland in 2006 and splitting a doubleheader in Philadelphia in 1903 (4-3, 0-5)…are 32-20 (.615) on the Fourth since moving to Oakland in 1968…have won nine of the last 10 games…are 19-8 in Oakland and 13-12 on the road…this is just the second time in the last 13 years the A’s have played on the road (won 3-1 at Minnesota in 2016).

OFFENSE: The A’s have collected 10 or more hits in three straight games for the first time this year (31-for-108, .287)…that follows an Oakland-record streak of 19 consecutive games with fewer than 10 hits…are batting .210 (284-for-1350) with 26 home runs over the last 42 games dating back to May 17 after hitting .230 with 52 home runs over the first 44 contests…rank last in the majors in batting (.221), slugging (.352), OPS (.653), runs scored (307) and extra base hits (205)…have the second fewest doubles (115), the third lowest on-base percentage (.301), are tied for the third most times shut out (9), have the fifth most strikeouts (788) and the sixth fewest home runs (78)…lead the majors in sacrifice hits (17), are tied for second in hit by pitches (47) and tied for 10th in walks (286).

IN THE PINCH: A’s pinch hitters are 8-for-22 (.364) over the last 14 games and 23-for-82 (.280) with three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI and 10 walks overall…lead the majors in hits, rank third in plate appearances (93), tied for fourth in walks, tied for fifth in doubles, tied for sixth in extra base hits (5), tied for seventh in home runs and tied for ninth in RBI.

PITCHING: The A’s have compiled a 6.85 ERA (54 er in 71.0 ip) over the last eight games and have a 6.07 ERA overall, which is the highest in the majors… also have the highest opponents on-base percentage (.362) and the second highest OPS (.831), batting average (.274) and slugging percentage (.469)… lead the majors in most walks (379) and hit batters (56), are tied for the most wild pitches (41), rank second in most home runs (125) and have the fourth fewest strikeouts (673).

STARTING PITCHING: A’s starting pitchers are 2-9 with a 5.06 ERA (47 er in 83.2 ip) over the last 17 games after going 4-0 with a 2.60 ERA over the previous eight contests…are 8-41 with a 6.34 ERA for the season…the ERA is second highest in the majors (Rockies, 6.56) and the wins are the fewest…have tossed seven innings or fewer in each game this year and have the fourth fewest innings pitched (400.0).

THE BULLPEN: The A’s bullpen has allowed at least three runs in each of the last five games for a 7.06 ERA (21.2 ip, 26 h, 18 r, 17 er, 8 bb, 21 so)…overall, has the highest ERA in the majors (5.76), the most losses (22) and the third most innings pitched (358.0)…is 3-for-3 in save opportunities over the last 10 games but is 13-for-28 (46.4%) for the season, which is the lowest percentage in the majors…has the third fewest saves and is tied for the ninth most blown saves (15)…has allowed 65-of-156 (41.7%) inherited runners to score, which is the second highest percentage…has the third most inherited runners.

ON THE BASES: The A’s are 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts over the last four games and are 87-for-105 (82.9%) for the season…rank third in the majors in steals, fourth in attempts and sixth in percentage…the 87 stolen bases are second most by an A’s team over the last 11 years (had 88 in 2021)…A’s opponents are 13-for-27 (48.1%) in stolen base attempts over the last 23 games and 61-for-93 (65.6%) for the season, which is the second lowest success rate in the majors…the 32 caught stealings are nine more than any other team… A’s pitchers have 11 pickoffs, which is second most (Yankees, 13).

HOME AND AWAY: The A’s begin a six-game road trip to Detroit (three games) and Boston (three games) tonight, which takes them into the All-Star Break… went 1-5 on the last road trip to Cleveland (0-3) and Toronto (1-2) and are 11-31 (.262) on the road, which is the worst road record in the majors…went 3-3 on the last homestand against New York-AL (1-2) and Chicago-AL (2-1) and are 12-32 (.273) at home, which is the lowest home winning percentage in the majors…have compiled a 5.29 ERA at home compared to 6.97 (271 er in 350.0 ip) on the road.

WINNING LATE: The A’s have scored the winning run in their final at bat in 12 of their 23 victories…have six walk-off wins, which is tied for second most in the majors…are 5-6 (.455) in extra innings…are tied for third in the majors in extra inning losses, tied for fourth in games (11) and tied for fifth in wins… have 11 wins when tied or trailing after seven innings, which is tied for fifth most in the majors.

TIGERS SLUG FIVE HOMERS TO CLINCH SERIES: The Tigers plated a season-high 14 runs on Sunday, defeating the Rockies 14-9 to clinch the series and a winning road trip. Detroit hit five homers in the victory, led by Javier Baez and Jake Marisnick’s grand slams. Kerry Carpenter added a three-run shot, while Spencer Torkelson hit a two-run blast. Jake Rogers hit a solo homer in the victory. Matt Manning started for Detroit and picked up the win, giving up four runs on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Jason Foley struck out two in a scoreless ninth to close out the game.

ROSTER MOVES: The Tigers have announced the following roster moves:
*Placed LHP Tyler Alexander on the 60-day injured list, retroactive to July 3, with a left lat/ shoulder strain

*Reinstated LHP Tarik Skubal from the 60-day injured list

A GRAND PERFORMANCE: The Tigers hit a pair of grand slams in Sunday’s series finale at Colorado as Javier Baez cleared the bases in the first inning and Jake Marisnick hit his first career grand slam in the eighth. It marked the first time the Tigers have hit multiple grand slams in a game since May 15, 2009 vs. Oakland when Brandon Inge and Ryan Raburn did so and was the first by a big league team since the Yankees hit two grand slams on July 6, 2022 at Pittsburgh.

POWER SURGE: The Tigers hit a season-high five homers in Sunday’s game, their most round-trippers in a game since also hitting five on September 3, 2021 at Cincinnati. Detroit enters tonight’s game having homered in seven straight games, equaling its longest streak of the season (also, April 29 (Gm. 1)-May 5). With a homer tonight, the Tigers would match their longest streak since July 5-17 (Gm. 1), 2021. JAKE RAKES:

Jake Rogers hit his 11th home run of the season on Sunday, a solo shot in the fourth inning. Rogers ranks third among American League catchers with 11 home runs. Among AL catchers with at least 100 plate appearances this season, he ranks third in slugging percentage (.473), OPS (.777) and fWAR (1.7), while he is fourth in wRC+ (114).

TIGERS AND ATHLETICS: The Tigers and Athletics begin their seven-game season series tonight. Detroit went 2-5 against Oakland last season, including a 1-4 record at Comerica Park. The A’s have won the season series from the Tigers each of the last five seasons the two teams have played.

AT COMERICA PARK: The Tigers tonight begin a six-game homestand, which includes three games vs. Oakland (July 4-6) and three games vs. Toronto (July 7-9). Detroit is 18-21 at Comerica Park this season. The Tigers are hitting .242/.315/.381 as a team at home, while the pitching staff has a 4.53 ERA (358.0IP/180ER).
