Last night was the Royals 14th comeback win, and 8 of their last 15 wins have been come from behind.
The Royals are 3-3 in extra-inning games, including a pair of walk-off wins in the 10th inning on this homestand…they’ve won each of their last 3 extra-inning games dating back to June 29, something they hadn’t done since Sept. 30, 2015-June 29, 2016, when they won 5 straight games that ended in extras.
According to Elias, last night was the third time in franchise history that the Royals won despite trailing by multiple runs in extra innings…the other 2 such wins came on May 2, 2000 vs. Oakland, when they scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 10th off Jason Isringhausen to win 8-7, and Aug. 2, 1996 vs. the Yankees—27 years ago today—when the Royals scored 4 runs in the bottom of 10th off Mariano Rivera to win 4-3.

Including the trade of Nicky Lopez to the Braves for left hander Taylor Hearn on Sunday, and Jose Cuas to the Cubs for outfielder Nelson Velázquez on Monday, the Royals made five trades in three days, which saw them deal four Major League players for seven players, including six minor leaguers and Davidson.
ROSTER MOVES: Following last night’s game, the Royals optioned pitchers Jackson Kowar and James McArthur to Triple-A Omaha…in one of two corresponding moves, left hander Tucker Davidson will report to the big league club for tonight’s game, and will wear No. 41…Davidson was acquired yesterday from the Angels for cash considerations…additionally, the Royals have recalled left hander Cole Ragans, who will start tonight’s game…Ragans, who was acquired on June 30 in the three-player trade that sent Aroldis Chapman to Texas, made his Royals debut in Game 2 of the July 15 doubleheader vs. the Rays, and allowed just 1 run in 5.0 innings…in his most recent start with Omaha last Thursday, he allowed just 1 hit over 5.0 scoreless innings.
JULY HONORS: The Royals announced today that Bobby Witt Jr. and Ryan Yarbrough have been named Royals Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for July…the awards are determined by a local media vote.

Yarbrough, who was traded to the Dodgers last night, led Royals starters in July with a 2.19 ERA (6 ER in 24.2 IP), which ranked 6th in the American League (min. 4 starts)…he went 3-1 with 3 quality starts in his 4 assignments and surrendered only 2 walks to 99 batters in 24.2 innings for a 2.0 BB% and 0.7 BB/9.
INTERLEAGUE INTRIGUE: The Royals are playing host to the New York Mets this week for the first time since 2019, when the Royals lost 2 of 3…they are 8-9 in 17 regular season meetings vs. the Mets, which mark their 2ndfewest games played vs. any opponent, 2 more than their 15 games vs. the Phillies, whom the Royals will see this weekend in Philadelphia…with a win tonight or tomorrow, the Royals would clinch their first regular season series win over the Mets since 2013, when they won 2 of 3 in New York…of course, the Royals beat the Mets in the 2015 World Series to claim the franchise’s first World Championship in 30 years and second overall, besting New York in 5 games, including 2 extra-inning wins.

their 28 games this month vs. National League teams, including 6 consecutive to begin the month vs. these Mets and the Phillies this weekend.
TONIGHT’S STARTERS: LHP COLE RAGANS (2-3, 5.22)
COLE RAGANS is making his 2nd start of the season (19th appearance) and 11th start of his career tonight vs. the Mets…Ragans, 25, was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 1st round (30th) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the North Florida Christian High School, and was acquired by Kansas City with 17-year-old Dominican outfielder Roni Cabrera on June 30 for Aroldis Chapman.
RAY-GUNS: Cole made his Royals debut as the 27th Man in the 2nd game of a split doubleheader vs. the Rays on July 15, but did not factor into the decision of Kansas City’s 4-2 loss, despite allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks in 5.0 innings, with 3 strikeouts…he exited with a 2-1 lead before the bullpen allowed 3 runs in the final 3.0 innings…Ragans pitched into and out of danger in the 1st inning, working around back-to-back 1-out walks and a single with a caught stealing and a pop out, but faltered in the 3rd inning as Randy Arozarena drove in Wander Franco with a 2-out single, after which he retired his final seven batters.
Ragans’ fastball averaged 97.5 mph and he topped out at 99.8 mph on a pitch to Franco in the 1st inning, becoming the second Royals left-handed starting pitcher in the Pitch Tracking Era (since 2008) to touch 99.0 mph, joining Danny Duffy, who did so 30 times and most recently on Aug. 7, 2013.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB: Ragans joins the Royals for the second time after being acquired on June 30 from the Texas Rangers, with whom he posted a 5.92 ERA (16 ER in 24.1 IP) with 24 strikeouts in 17 relief appearances this season…Ragans broke camp with the big league club and began the year with 5 consecutive scoreless outings, covering 5.0 innings while allowing just 2 hits…overall, he allowed 16 runs across 24.1 innings in 17 games, with 13 of those runs (12 ER) coming in 3 outings.
Made 9 starts with Texas last year, going 0-3 with a 4.95 ERA (22 ER in 40.0 IP).
Ragans endured two stints on the 15-day Injured List last season due to a left calf strain, from Aug. 26-Sept. 7 and Oct. 3-end of season.
GLAD HE’S ON OUR SIDE: Ragans is making his 2nd appearance as a Royal at Kauffman Stadium, but he has opposed the Royals once this year…the left hander earned the win for the Rangers at Globe Life Field on April 11 when he entered the game in the top of the 10th inning and allowed an inherited runner to score on a sacrifice fly by Michael Massey, but the Rangers walked off Kansas City courtesy of a Jonah Heim grand slam in the bottom half off Scott Barlow.
