BIG DRIP IN THE CITY OF ANGELS: Tonight, Megill makes his first career start in Los Angeles…He was born in Long Beach, California and attended Los Alamitos High School, located 25 miles from Dodger Stadium.

TY-FOUR: Megill is seeking to become the first Mets pitcher since Matt Harvey and Bartolo Colon in 2015 to win their first four starts of the season…Harvey ended up winning his first five starts that season…If Megill earns the win tonight, he will become the 14th pitcher in franchise history to win his first four starts of a season…Frank Viola owns the franchise record for most consecutive starts won to open the season after winning his first seven starts of the 1990 season.

LOS ANGELES DODGERS NOTES:
JUST NOT ENOUGH: The Dodgers offense picked things up considerably last night, but the six runs weren’t enough and the club dropped their second consecutive contest and third of the homestand, 8-6, in the first game of a three-game set with the New York Mets. Los Angeles collected nine hits, but gave up 14 and continued a familiar theme from this early part of the season: The Boys in Blue are now 0-9 when getting out-hit by their opponent. As the six-game homestand (1-3) heads to its conclusion, the Dodgers will play the Mets in the middle game of the series tonight, before wrapping things up with an early 12:10 p.m. start tomorrow afternoon. Following the game tomorrow, the club will fly to Chicago and begin an eight-day, seven-game road trip against the Cubs (4) and Pirates (3), beginning with a 4:40 p.m. PT start on Thursday night at Wrigley Field. Freddie Freeman belted two home runs last night, his first multi-homer game with the Dodgers. Freeman has 18-career multi-homer games and in 196 games vs. the Mets, he is slashing .305/.388/.501 with 30 home runs. The Dodgers lost their season series with the Mets last year, splitting four games at Dodger Stadium and losing two of three at Citi Field. Los Angeles lost just two series after the All-Star break last season, falling to the Mets on the road and Washington at Dodger Stadium. 2022 marked the first time the Dodgers lost a season series to the Mets since 2015, but Los Angeles has now dropped five of its last six vs. New York.

HISTORY CLASS: According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Dodger left-hander Clayton Kershaw takes the mound tonight with his first opportunity to become the 117th pitcher in big league history to reach 200 wins. Kershaw would also become just the third pitcher to reach 200 wins with the Dodgers, joining Don Sutton (233) and Don Drysdale (209). With a victory tonight, Kershaw’s winning percentage of .694 would be the highest of All-time in the 200 club, just ahead of Yankees’ Hall of Famer Whitey Ford (.690).

HOME RUNS TO THE MAX: Dodger third baseman Max Muncy went 2-for-4 last night and ripped his seventh homer of the season, tying him with Rafael Devers for third in the Major Leagues, trailing just Patrick Wisdom (8) and Pete Alonso (8). Muncy’s 15 RBI are tied for fourth in the NL, trailing just Bryan Reynolds (17), Francisco Lindor (17) and Matt Olson (17).

DIGGING THE LONGBALL: The Dodgers ripped three home runs last night and continue to lead the National League with 30 home runs, trailing only the Tampa Bay Rays (37) for the most in the Majors. The club has recorded six 3+ homer games this season and also lead the NL with 91 runs scored , 62 extra-base hits (T-1st) and six triples (T-1st, ML). The club ranks second on the Senior Circuit with a .463 slugging percentage.
