MLB Preview: Minnesota Twins (65-61) at Milwaukee Brewers (69-57)

MINNESOTA TWINS NOTES:

THE TWINS: After completing their five-game, six day homestand with a record of 3-2 (1-1 vs. Detroit and 2-1 vs. Pittsburgh), the Twins began their two-game series in Milwaukee with a loss last night at American Family Field…this afternoon, the Twins will complete the trip and series with the second of two in Wisconsin…following today’s game, the Twins will travel back to Minneapolis to begin a seven-game homestand with four against the Rangers from Thursday-Sunday and three against the Guardians from August 28-30…the Twins have gone 36-26 at home and 29-35 on the road.

Of the Twins’ 36 remaining games, they have an opponent winning percentage of .477, the fourth-lowest strength of schedule in Major League Baseball…however, the combined winning percentage of opponents over the next 20 games is .532.

TWINS SINGLED INTO SUBMISSION IN THE SIXTH: The Twins lost to the Brewers last night at American Family Field by a score of 7-3…Bailey Ober was the starter but did not factor into the decision, allowing two runs on two hits in 5.0 innings pitched, throwing 78 pitches and exiting with a 3-2 lead…Dylan Floro (4-6) was issued the loss, allowing five runs on six hits in 1.0 inning of relief…the offense recorded seven hits, highlighted by a Christian Vázquez two-run homer in the second inning…Kyle Farmer drove in the other run with a fourth-inning single.

BROOM BREAKDOWN: Twins are looking to avoid being swept today for the fifth time this season…the other four sweeps came in three games at Tropicana Field from June 6-8 against the Rays, three games at Truist Park from June 26-28 against the Braves, three games against the Orioles from July 7-9 at Target Field and three games against the Royals from July 28-30 at Kauffman Stadium.

The last time Minnesota was swept by the Brewers was in two games in this ballpark from July 26-27, 2022.

The Twins are 1-0-1 in two-game series’ this season, sweeping the Brewers June 13-14 and splitting a series with the Tigers August 15-16.

Minnesota has faced a potential sweep six times this season, salvaging the series finale three of six times…the three times they avoided a sweep were April 21-23 vs. Washington, May 2-4 at Chicago-AL and May 22-24 vs. San Francisco.
