MINNESOTA TWINS NOTES:

THE TWINS: Completed their 10-game homestand with a record of 6-4, going 1-2 against the Nationals, 2-1 against the Yankees and 3-1 against the Royals…tonight, they will make their first visit of 2023 to Guaranteed Rate Field and play the first of three games on the Southside…the Twins will continue the six-game roadtrip with three against the Guardians this weekend…the Twins have gone 10-6 at Target Field and 7-6 on the road.

Twins have gone 6-2 in their last eight games since April 23 after going 1-6 in a seven-game stretch from April 15-22.

A win tonight would give Rocco Baldelli 306 career managerial victories, which would place him in sole possession of fifth on the Twins all-time list (since 1961)…list lower right.

TWINS GONE FISHIN’ IN FINALE: The Twins beat the Royals on Sunday afternoon by a score of 8-4, scoring seven runs in the third inning and taking the four-game series three games to one…Sonny Gray (4-0) was the starter and winner, allowing one run on five hits in 6.0 innings pitched…Jhoan Duran earned his sixth save (7 chances) with 0.1 inning…the offense recorded seven hits, highlighted by Byron Buxton, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, a double (6) and a home run (7)…Buxton’s homer traveled an estimated distance of 453 feet, the longest for a Twin this season, besting Michael A. Taylor’s 444-foot shot on April 23 vs. Washington.

CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE: The Twins are playing a series against an AL Central opponent for the fourth time this season…in their previous three AL Central series, they swept the Royals in three games (March 30-April 2), took two of three from Chicago (April 10-12) and took three of four from KC (April 27-30).

After three games in Cleveland this weekend, they will not play another team within the division until hosting the Guardians for four games from June 1-4.

Joey Gallo is hitting .324 (11-for-34) with four home runs, seven walks, and a 1.115 OPS in his last nine games vs. the Sox − all at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Byron Buxton has 16 career home runs and 39 RBI against the Sox (his most against any opponent), including nine homers and 16 RBI in his last 15 games.

Christian Vázquez is hitting .431 (22-for-51) with a 1.031 OPS in 17 career games at Guar- anteed Rate…in his last 11 games here, he has reached base 22 times in 35 plate appear- ances (.629 OBP)…two of his six four-hit games (career high) have come in this ballpark.

LAND OF 10,000 RAKES: The Twins have homered in a season-long 13-straight games, since April 18…since that date, they have hit 22 home runs, the third most in baseball in that span, trailing Tampa Bay (24) and San Francisco (23)….the current streak is the second longest of 2023, trailing the Rays’ stretch of 22-straight to begin the season (March 30-April 23).

Has won a career-best eight consecutive decisions, since September 13, 2022; is 8-0, 2.06 ERA (56.2 IP, 13 ER) with 12 walks, 63 strikeouts and a .169 opponent batting average in that nine-start span.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX NOTES:

WHITE SOX AT A GLANCE
The Chicago White Sox have lost 10 of their last 11 games, 15 of 18 and 18 of 23 as they continue a seven-game homestand tonight with the opener against Minnesota.

RHP Michael Kopech is scheduled to start for the White Sox, who are tied with the 1950 club for the second-worst 29-game start in franchise history (7-22 in 1948).

The Sox opened the homestand by losing three of four games to Tampa Bay, avoiding the sweep on Sunday with come-from-behind, 12-9 victory over the Rays.

Following this three-game series, the White Sox take a seven-game trip to Cincinnati (5/5-7) and Kansas City (5/8-11).

The Sox went 0-6 on their last trip to Tampa Bay (0-3) and Toronto (0-3) from 4/21-26 and 2-4 on their last homestand vs. Baltimore (1-2) and Philadelphia (1-2) from 4/13-19.

TONIGHT’S STORYLINES
Tim Anderson returns to the White Sox lineup for the first time since 4/10 at Minnesota … the Sox went 3-15 in his absence.

The Sox play 32 games in 33 days from 5/2-6/4, with the lone off day coming on 5/15 … 23 of the 32 games during that stretch are against American League Central teams.

The White Sox are 17-9 at home vs. Minnesota since 2020.

Sox starting pitchers have issued three walks with 24 strikeouts over the last three games … four of the eight runs the rotation has allowed during that stretch came on Saturday vs. Tampa Bay after Lance Lynn carried a no-hitter into the seventh.

SUNDAY’S RECAP
Andrew Vaughn hit a game-ending, three-run homer off Garrett Cleavinger with two outs in the ninth inning to cap a seven-run rally as the White Sox ended a 10-game losing streak with a 12-9 victory over Tampa Bay.

Trailing, 9-7, with two outs, Elvis Andrus and Adam Haseley hit RBI singles to tie the game and set up Vaughn’s first career walkoff homer and the first for the Sox since Leury García on 9/12/21 vs. Boston.

The Sox carried a 4-2 lead before the Rays scored five runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to take a 9-5 lead … the White Sox scored once in the eighth to set up their seven-run ninth, which marked their highest-scoring inning since 8/29/21 vs. the Cubs (also seven).

The win marked the Sox largest ninth-inning comeback since 9/7/07 vs. Minnesota when they trailed, 10-4, before winning in extra innings, and their largest ninth-inning comeback without going to extras since 4/28/04 vs. Cleveland when they overcame an 8-4 deficit to win, 9-8.

Eloy Jiménez (second time) and Haseley (second time) each matched a career high with four hits … Haseley reached base safely a career-high five times and scored a career-high three runs … Yasmani Grandal hit a two-run homer, and Andrus was 3-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

Mike Clevinger posted a ND, allowing two runs with one walk and eight strikeouts over 5.0 IP … Gregory Santos and Joe Kelly each threw 1.0 scoreless IP.

The Sox recorded season highs in runs scored and hits (18).

A BREAK IN THE CLOUDS?
The White Sox went 8-21 in March/April while playing the most difficult schedule in MLB, as their opponents combined to record a .632 winning percentage (STATS).

The Sox played 13 games vs. American League East teams, including seven vs. Tampa Bay and three each vs. Baltimore and Toronto, three vs. AL Central-leading Minnesota, four vs. defending World Champion Houston, three vs. NL Central-leading Pittsburgh and three vs. defending NL champion Philadelphia.

By comparison, per STATS the Sox schedule in May rates as the third-easiest in MLB based on their .424 opponents winning percentage (see boxes at right) … 20 of their 30 games in May are vs. the AL Central.

WHITE SOX VS. MINNESOTA TWINS
Minnesota leads the season series, 2-1, after winning two of three games at Target Field from 4/10-12 … all three games were decided by two runs or less.

The White Sox are hitting .178/.224/.317 (18-101) with a 2.42 ERA (7 ER/26.0 IP) and have been outscored, 10-8.

The teams play 13 times this season, down from 18-plus each full season from 2001-22 (not including 2020).

The White Sox are 28-23 vs. Minnesota since the start of the 2020 season (17-9 at home) after going 20-37 from 2017-19.

The White Sox went 3-15 while All-Star SS Tim Anderson was on the 10-day injured list from 4/11-5/1 with a sprained left knee suffered on 4/10 at Minnesota.

Since the start of the 2020 season, the Sox are 150-112 (.573) when Anderson is in the starting lineup and 67-84 (.444) when he is not.

During that span, the Sox are 124-73 when Anderson records a hit, 72-32 when he records a multi-hit effort, 94-46 when he score a run and 27-3 when he homers.

LHP Garrett Crochet, who underwent Tommy John surgery on 4/5/22, began his rehab assignment on Sunday at Class AA Birmingham, pitching a 1-2-3 seventh inning with one strikeout vs. Tennessee … Crochet, the No. 11 overall pick in the 2020 draft, had never pitched in a MiLB game prior to Sunday.

The White Sox are batting .272/.338/.442 vs. left-handed pitching since the start of the 2019 season … during that span, the Sox lead MLB in average, rank third in on-base percentage and OPS (.780) and fifth in slugging.
