PERALTA AT A GLANCE: Freddy Peralta, 27, will make his 16th start of the season and second against the Pirates…..Peralta last started last Saturday at Cleveland and took a 4-2 loss (5ip, 4h, 3r, 3er, 3bb, 5k, 1hbp, 98 pitches)…..he left the game in the sixth inning with a 2-1 lead…..the team is 7-8 in his starts…..he has 8 quality starts…..opponents are batting .240 (75-for-312, 14hr)…..Peralta was acquired from Seattle, along with RHP Carlos Herrera and RHP Daniel Missaki, in exchange for 1B Adam Lind on 12/9/15…..on 2/28/20, he signed a 5-year contract through the 2024 season with club options for 2025 and 2026.

THE PIRATES: Have won three straight games for the first time since winning six in a row from May 30 to June 5…Have had four separate winning streaks of at least four games this season, including a season-high seven-game winning streak from 4/17-23. Are 4-2 in their last six games following their season-high 10-game losing streak from 6/13-22.

ROSTER MOVE: The Pirates reinstated right-handed pitcher Colin Holderman from the 15-day injured (right wrist inflammation) today…Right-handed pitcher Cody Bolton has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room for Holderman on the active roster.

A CALL TO ARMS: Pittsburgh’s starting pitching staff has posted a 2.84 ERA (44.1ip/14er) in the last seven games… Pittsburgh’s bullpen has posted an 0.53 ERA (17.2ip/1er) in the team’s last six games.

ABOUT TONIGHT’S STARTER: Osvaldo Bido gets the start tonight in the opener of this weekend series against the Brewers… Bido allowed two runs in 5.2 innings but had a no-decision in his last start in the team’s 4-3, 11-inning walkoff loss Saturday at Miami.

THE RENEGADE: 2022 All-Star David Bednar has converted each of his last 12 and 16 of his 17 save opportunities this season…Prior to Bednar, Felipe Vazquez was the last Pirate to convert more than 12 straight save opportunities (14 straight in 2019)…Bednar is tied for fourth in the National League in saves (16) this season, while his 38 as a Pirate are one shy of tying Ramon Hernandez for 15th on the club’s all-time list since saves became an official statistic in 1969.

PLAYING THE FIELD: Pittsburgh brings a season-high errorless streak of 50.1 innings into today…The five straight errorless games are tied with the Marlins for the second-longest active streak in MLB (the Rangers have gone seven straight games without a miscue).

WHAT’S BREWING: This is Milwaukee’s first of two visits to PNC Park this year (also September 4-6)…Andrew McCutchen has 36 career home runs against the Brewers…That’s the second-most active players behind Joey Votto (40).

ROOKIE ON A ROLL: Henry Davis brings a seven-game hitting streak into today while also reaching base safely in nine of his first 10 big league games…Since making his MLB debut on June 19, Davis’ 13 hits are tied for the most among all MLB rookies along with Cincinnati’s Elly De La Cruz.

BUILDING THE BUCS: Entering the 2023 season, 20 of Pittsburgh’s top 30 prospects according to MLB Pipeline were acquired by Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington…In addition, seven of the organization’s top 10 prospects have been acquired since Cherington was named Pittsburgh’s General Manager on November 18, 2019 (the only three who weren’t were Quinn Priester, Luis Ortiz and Mike Burrows)

CARLOS SANTANA’S HITS: Carlos Santana comes into today three hits shy of 1,600 in his career…Santana has multiple hits in each of his last three games, going 7-for-13 with a double, two homers and four RBI (his first time to have multiple hits in at least three straight games since doing so in four straight from April 17-20, 2021).

ON-BASE MACHINE: Andrew McCutchen has a team-high 18-game on-base streak coming into today…Since McCutchen’s streak began on June 5, his .468 on-base percentage ranks second in all of MLB behind Shohei Ohtani (.505)…The last Pirate to have an on-base streak more than 18 games was Ke’Bryan Hayes in 2021 (21 games).

STARTING PITCHER – 70 – RHP OSVALDO BIDO
OSVALDO BIDO: The 27-year-old righthander will make his fourth big league start tonight after being promoted from Indianapolis on 6/14…He allowed two runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings in a no-decision in his last start; a 4-3, 11-inning loss Saturday at Miami…He went 3-4 with a 4.55 ERA in 12 appearances (10 starts) this season at Indianapolis…Was signed by the Pirates as a non-drafted free agent on 3/15/17.
