ATLANTA BRAVES NOTES:

TONIGHT’S GAME: The Braves and Marlins tonight open a three-game weekend series in what is the eighth of 13 games between the teams this season… The two next meet for the final three games of the season set, September 15-17, in Miami.

  • Atlanta is 6-1 against Miami this season, outscoring the Marlins, 54-22 (+32)…The Marlins are 1-6 with a -32 run differential against the Braves, and 47-28 with a +32 run differential against all other teams.

MICHAEL SOROKA: Was recalled today from Triple-A Gwinnett and makes his first start at Truist Park since August 3, 2020, when he tore his right achilles while facing the Mets…Tonight marks his third start of the season, and just his third appearance in the majors since 2020.

  • Tonight is his first start in Atlanta with fans in attendance since beating the Phillies, September 19, 2019.
  • Soroka has never lost to Miami, going 2-0 with a 1.07 ERA (4 ER/33.2 IP) in five career starts… Atlanta is 4-1 in his five turns.
  • Was honored as the International League’s Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 19-25…In his start for Gwinnett on June 22, he tossed a 7.0- inning complete game with nine strikeouts while allowing just one run…Carried a no-hitter through 6.2 innings.
  • In 11 starts with the Stripers overall this year, Soroka is 3-2 with a 3.31 ERA (20 ER/54.1 IP), 1.14 WHIP, and .215 opponents’ batting average.

HALFWAY: Atlanta tonight plays its 81st game of the season, marking the halfway point of the 162-game MLB schedule…The Braves are 53-27 (.663) on the season,
percentage points behind Tampa Bay for the best record in baseball.

  • Regardless of tonight’s outcome, Atlanta’s 53 wins are its most through 81 games since the National League went to a 162-game schedule in 1962…The previous best was a 52-29 (.642) record, first set in 1995 and then matched in 1997 and 1998.
  • The Braves’ 53 wins (at minimum) through 81 games are the most by an NL team since the 2019 Dodgers were 55-26 (.679).
