WHITE SOX AT A GLANCE
The Chicago White Sox have won six of their last eight games, 16 of 25 and 22 of 38 as they conclude a brief three-game homestand this afternoon against the Miami Marlins.

RHP Lucas Giolito is scheduled to start for the White Sox, who are in third place in the American League Central, 2.5 games behind Cleveland and 4.5 behind division-leading Minnesota.

The Sox have split the first two games of the homestand, recording a walkoff, 2-1 victory on Friday before Miami rallied in the ninth inning yesterday for a 5-1 win.

Following today’s game and a day off tomorrow, the White Sox take a six-game trip to Los Angeles-NL (6/13-15) and Seattle (6/16-18).

The Sox went 2-1 on their last trip to New York-AL from 6/6-8 and 4-2 on their last homestand vs. the Angels (1-2) and Detroit (3-0) from 5/29-6/4.

TODAY’S STORYLINES
The White Sox are 6-2 in June, the best record in the American League … they lead MLB in June with a 2.00 ERA (16 ER/72.0 IP), but are hitting .202/.275/.333 (52-258) with 23 runs scored (2.9 R/G) during the month.

The Sox have gone 16-10 (.615) since 5/13, tied with the Yankees for the fourth-best record in the AL and the best in the AL Central … during that span, they have recorded a 2.95 ERA (76 ER/231.2 IP), the best mark in MLB (see box at right) l The White Sox have committed one error in the last 10 games.

The Sox have scored three runs in the last three games.

Lucas Giolito is 4-2 with a 3.30 ERA (17 ER/46.1 IP) over his last eight starts … Giolito threw 6.0 hitless IP in his last start on 6/6 at Yankee Stadium.

ROSTER MOVES
Prior to today’s game, the Sox placed RHP Liam Hendriks on the 15-day injured list (retro to 6/10) with right elbow inflammation and recalled LHP Tanner Banks from Class AAA Charlotte.

YESTERDAY’S RECAP
Miami rallied for five runs in the ninth inning on two hits, two walks and an error in the ninth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit and record a 5-1 victory over the White Sox.

Michael Kopech posted a ND despite allowing five hits with one walk and six strikeouts over 5.0 IP … Kopech lowered his ERA to 2.00 (8 ER/36.0 IP) over his last six starts. l Gregory Santos threw 1.2 scoreless IP for his second hold, and Reynaldo López went 1.1 scoreless IP for his eight hold … Joe Kelly gave up five run (two earned) in the ninth for his third loss and fourth blown save.

Andrew Vaughn accounted for the Sox only run with a solo homer (No. 8) off Sandy Alcantara leading off the fourth.

Sox pitchers allowed 10 hits and five walks, but the Marlins went 1-16 with RISP and left 12 runners on base.

SOX CELEBRATE U.S. ARMY BIRTHDAY
The White Sox are celebrating Army Day today ahead of the upcoming birthday of the U.S. Army, established June 14, 1775.

Prior to the game, the Sox held a swearing in ceremony for 30 new members of the U.S. Armed Forces … a military flyover, executed with four Blackhawk helicopters by the Wisconsin Army National Guard, is scheduled following the National Anthem.

Three Army vehicles and an Army truck/trailer are on display at the Gate 5 Plaza tailgate pad … additional programming recognizing our servicemen and servicewomen include a Gate 4 and National Anthem performance, today’s Play Ball announcement and Hero of the Game recognition.

NAZARETH, NEW TRIER MAKE MARKS AT STATE
Landon Thome, son of former White Sox player and HOF Jim Thome, helped lead Nazareth Academy to its second straight Illinois High School Association Class 3A state championship yesterday with a 7-2 victory over Grayslake Central in Joliet.

Landon played second base for Nazareth, while Jim served as an assistant coach.

Charlie Hahn, son of White Sox General Manager Rick Hahn, was a member of the New Trier team which used a five-run rally yesterday to defeat York in the Class 4A third-place game.

SOUTHPAW SUCCESS
The White Sox are batting .273/.338/.443 vs. left-handed pitching since the start of the 2019 season … during that span, the Sox lead MLB in average, rank second in on-base percentage, third in OPS (.781) and sixth in slugging percentage.

Tim Anderson leads MLB with a .352 (152-432) average vs. left-handers since 2019.

WHITE SOX VS. MIAMI MARLINS
The White Sox lead the all-time series, 11-9, including a 8-6 record at home.

Including manager Pedro Grifol, four members of the White Sox coaching staff are Cuban-Americans raised in Miami … other Miamians on staff are hitting coach José Castro, third base coach Eddie Rodríguez and field coordinator Mike Tosar.
