YESTERDAY’S RECAP

In a game that Miami used RHP JT Chargois as its opener, RHP Edward Cabrera tossed the bulk of the relief and allowed just 1 hit and 2 walks over 4.0 scoreless innings to earn his 6th win of the season. Cabrera tied a club record with 8 strikeouts in relief.

SWEET SIX-CESS
The Marlins have scored 6-plus runs in 6 consecutive games for the third time in franchise history and the first time since August 8-16, 2009, when they did so in club-best 8 consecutive games. The only other streak was 6 games from June 26-July 1, 2003.

WE WANT 10!
Miami’s 9 runs and 8 hits in the 5th inning both set season highs, with the 9 runs being the most since Aug. 13, 2021 when the team tied the club record with 11 runs in the 2nd inning vs. the Cubs. The last time the Marlins had 8 hits in a inning was on May 11, 2022 at Arizona (9th inning). Miami surpassed their previous season high of 6 hits in one inning, which happened 4x this season and last on June 27 at Boston (8th inning).

HOMER HAPPY
Miami matched a season high with 3 home runs in the 5th inning yesterday, marking the third time this season they have recorded 3 homers in a single inning. The most recent occurrence was also against the Dodgers on Aug. 18 at Dodger Stadium. The most home runs ever hit in a single inning by the Marlins was 4, on Aug. 26, 1998 at St. Louis (9th inning). The Marlins have hit a combined 15 home runs during this 6-game wining streak, their most homers in any 6-game span in franchise history.

STEADY EDDY

Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A on July 31 and went 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA (28.1 IP/7 ER) in 5 starts with 12 walks and 30 strikeouts.

GETTING OFFENSIVE
C Jacob Stallings and SS Joey Wendle each recorded 2 hits in the 5th inning, marking the first pair of Marlins to record 2 hits in a single inning since Justin Bour and Cameron Maybin on July 15, 2018 vs. PHI (also 5th inning). Stallings and Wendle accounted for 5 of Miami’s 13 hits and 3 of the 8 extra-base hits, which were the most by the Marlins since they also had 8 on May 24, 2021 vs. PHI.

WAIT, MORE LEFTIES!

The Marlins are also the only team in MLB this season with multiple lefty relievers with 60-plus strikeouts. LHP Tanner Scott is 2 strikeouts shy of his career-high 90 strikeouts in 2022 which rank as the 3rd-most strikeouts by a reliever in club history. Only Robb Nen (92, 1996) and Kyle Barraclough (113, 2016) have struck out more batters in relief.
