LOS ANGELES DODGERS NOTES

TONIGHT’S STARTER at REDS: RHP TONY GONSOLIN (3-1, 1.77 ERA in 7 GS)
2023 SEASON NOTES:

  • Got his third win of the season in his start against Washington May 30th, tossing six innings of one-run ball on three hits, two walks and punching out two…had wins in back-to-back starts (5/14 and 5/19)
  • 2022 All-Star tossed his first win of the season on May 8th against San Diego after firing five scoreless innings and giving up two hits, one walk, and tying a season-high six strikeouts
  • In his rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on April 20th, he hurled three innings, allowing one hit, two earned runs, two walks while sitting down seven
  • Made one Spring Training start, tossing 2.1 innings, allowing no runs on three hits, while walking two and striking out two

VS. REDS:

  • Has pitched in three games against Cincinnati (two starts) in his career…had produced a 1-0 record with a 3.97 ERA (5 ER/11.1 IP) and eight
    strikeouts against six walks
  • In his last appearance against the club on June 21, 2022, he fired 5.0 innings while giving up three hits, two runs, two home runs and one walk while striking out four en route to the win

CINCINNATI REDS NOTES:
TRANSACTIONS

  • Today the Reds recalled from Louisville IF Elly De La Cruz (#44); placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Sunday, 3B/OF Nick Senzel (right knee); sent to Louisville on a rehabilitation assignment RHP Casey Legumina (right ankle contusion); RHP Frank German (HER-mahn), designated for assignment yesterday to make room on the roster for LHP Andrew Abbott, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Louisville.

RED HOTS

  • LHP Andrew Abbott last night become the only Reds pitcher since 1893, when the mound was moved to its current distance, to record in his Major League debut at least 6.0 scoreless innings while allowing no more than 1 hit…allowed only a double to Joey Wiemer with 1 out in the top of the fifth inning.
  • Reds relievers didn’t allow a run in any of the last 3 games (10ip, 5h, 0bb, 7k, .156baa).
  • Reds batters are tied for third in the Major Leagues with 58 stolen bases (TB 82, Pit 67, Oak 58), matching last season’s total…haven’t recorded more than 58 steals in a season since 2019 (80sb).
  • Matt McLain’s caught stealing last night snapped a streak in which Reds base runners had been successful on 18 consecutive stolen base attempts, their longest streak since 7/20-8/6, 2016, when they stole 23 straight bases without getting caught…courtesy @EliasSports.
  • The Reds are tied for 28th in the Major Leagues with 48 HR (Cle 35, Wsh 46, Det 48), their fewest in 60 games since the 1974 team produced 48 HR through its first 60 games…from 4/18-4/25, this year’s team did not produce a home run in a season-high 8 consecutive games, their longest team homerless streak since 1992.

  • Class A Dayton RHP Julian Aguiar was MiLB’s Midwest League Player of the Month…he was the Reds’ 12th-round pick in 2021.
  • Class A Daytona OF Hector Rodríguez was MiLB’s Florida State League Player of the Month…in July 2022 was acquired from the Mets in the Tyler Naquin trade.

Tonight is making his ninth career appearance and sixth start vs the Dodgers.

  • In the 4-3 loss on 4/20 at Pit, came off the 15-day injured list to make his 2023 season and Reds debuts…in the first inning allowed all 4 runs on 3 hits, including 2-out, back-to-back home runs by Connor Joe (3-run) and Jack Suwinski (solo)…in his last 5.0 innings faced only 16 batters and retired his last 10 batters…Joe’s 3-run HR snapped Weaver’s career-high 29.0-inning homerless streak (24g) dating back to his only start of 2022 (6/18/22 vs Min, Gary Sánchez).
  • On 3/8, left his third spring training appearance with right forearm tightness…didn’t pitch in another Cactus League “A” game for the Reds.
  • On Opening Day went on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain, snapping his 5-season streak on an active Opening Day roster (Cardinals 2018, Diamondbacks 2019-2022).
