LOS ANGELES ANGELS NOTES:
LEADING OFF: Today, the Angels play the second and third (1-0) of nine games on a road trip against the Detroit Tigers (1-0; July 25-27), Toronto Blue Jays (July 28-30) and Atlanta Braves (July 31-Aug. 2)…Halos went 6-3 on last homestand against the Astros (1-2), Yankees (3-0) and Pirates (2-1)…LAA was 0-5 on last road trip against the Padres (0-3) and Dodgers (0-2) just prior to All-Star Break.
LET’S PLAY TWO: Today is the Angels first doubleheader of the season and first since splitting a twinbill on Aug. 6, 2022 at Seattle (LAA played four doubleheaders last season)…Today is the Angels first doubleheader vs. Detroit since May 14, 2005 at Comerica Park (1-1 split).
SOX EXCHANGE: Last night, the Angels acquired RHP Lucas Giolito and RHP Reynaldo López from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league LHP Ky Bush and C Edgar Quero…In corresponding 40- man roster moves, RHP Ben Joyce was transferred to the 60-day injured list and INF Jared Walsh has been designated for assignment.
SO EXTRA: Following Tuesday night’s 7-6 victory in 10 innings at Detroit, the Angels have now won each of their last four extra-inning contests (started the year 1-4 through first five extra-inning games)…This is Halos longest extra inning win streak since a four-game streak in 2018.
HOME RUN LEADERS: Angels lead the American League and rank third in the Majors with 155 home runs this season.
LEAGUE LEADER: As a hitter, Shohei Ohtani leads the Majors in home runs (36), total bases (250), XBH (59), slugging percentage (.668) and OPS (1.066) and is tied
for the MLB lead in triples (7)…On the mound, he is tied for the Major League lead in opponent batting average (.195) and is fourth in strikeouts (148).

FAMILIAR FOE: Today the Angels are scheduled to face Tigers starter RHP Michael Lorenzen in Game 1, who was a member of the Angels last season…The Anaheim native went 8-6 with a 4.24 ERA (97.2 IP – 46 ER) in 18 starts for the Halos in 2022.
SHO OFF: Today, Shohei Ohtani is scheduled to make his 20th career pitching start (sixth this season) for the Angels while also leading the Majors in home runs as a batter…In 2021 he became the first player with multiple pitching starts in a season while leading Majors in homers since Babe Ruth in 1919.
ON THE HILL: Game 2 starting pitcher, Patrick Sandoval is 2-0 with a 1.83 ERA (19.2 IP – 4 ER) in three career games vs. Detroit…He pitched his first career shutout in his last appearance at Comerica Park on Aug. 19, 2022 (W; 9 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 SO).
BACK ON THE ROAD: Tuesday’s victory snapped a season-high six game road losing streak and was the Halos first road victory since June 24 at Colorado.
RECORD SETTING PACE: Shohei Ohtani’s 36 home runs through the first 101 team games of the season are the second-most in Angels history (Ohtani had 37 HR through 101 (and 102/103) team games in 2021).
THE INJURED LIST: Angels currently have 16 players on the injured list and have used the IL a total of 25 times this year for 23 different players…The 16 players currently on the IL are the most in the Majors.
GAINING GROUND: With a 52-49 record, the Angels are looking to move back to being four games above .500 for the first time since having a 45-41 record on July 2.

ESTÉVEZ ENDING: Carlos Estévez is pitching to a 1.98 ERA (41 IP – 9 ER) and has converted all 23 of his save opportunities this year…He set the franchise record for consecutive save chances converted to begin a season (previously Lee Smith converted his first 19 chances in 1995)…The only player in Angels history with a longer save streak without a blown save at any point in a season is Francisco Rodriguez (25 game streak in 2008).
FROM BOTH SIDES: On Sunday vs. Pittsburgh, Luis Rengifo posted his third career multi-HR game and homered from both sides of the plate in the same game for the second time in his career (he also did so on Sept. 16, 2022)…Prior to Rengifo, no Angels switch-hitter had homered from both sides of the plate in a game since Kendrys Morales on July 30, 2012 at Texas.
LATE COMEBACKS: Halos have four wins this season when trailing after eight innings, which is the highest total for the Club since 2017, when the Angels had five wins when trailing after eight frames.

TIGERS-ANGELS RAINED OUT ON WEDNESDAY: The Tigers-Angels game on Wednesday was postponed due to inclement weather. The two teams will play a straight doubleheader today with the first game beginning at 1:10 p.m. and the second game starting 40 minutes after the conclusion of game 1.
EASY BEING GREENE: Riley Greene notched his second straight three-hit game and his eighth of the season on Tuesday against the Angels, going 3×5 with a double and a RBI. Greene has hit safely in 36 of his last 44 games, over which he is batting .363/.428/.536 with 12 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 17 RBI. Among American League players with at least 250 plate appearances this season, Greene ranks fifth with a .315 batting average and sixth with a .379 on-base percentage.
JAKE FROM PLATE FARM: Jake Rogers had a pair of hits, including a solo home run, and drove in two on Tuesday, extending his hitting streak to a career-best nine games. Rogers’ round-tripper was his 12th of the season, which ranks tied for sixth among American League catchers. Among AL catchers with at least 200 plate appearances, Rogers ranks fourth in slugging percentage (.455), wRC+ (109) and fWAR (2.0) and fifth in OPS (.760).
LET’S PLAY TWO: The Tigers today will play their fifth doubleheader of the season, which leads all Major League clubs. Detroit swept a twin bill from Cleveland on April 18, split two games with Baltimore on April 29 , won both contests against New York (NL) on May 3 and lost both games to Atlanta on June 14.
