LOS ANGELES ANGELS NOTES:
LEADING OFF: Today, the Angels play the first of five road games on the final road trip of the first half against he San Diego Padres (July 3-5) and Los Angeles Dodgers (July 7-8)…Halos went 3-4 on last homestand against the White Sox (2-2) and Diamondbacks (1-2)… LAA was 1-2 on last road trip at Colorado.
INTERLEAGUE PLAY: LAA owns a 272-235 (.536) all-time Interleague record (11-12 in 2023)…The 272 all-time Interleague wins are third most all time behind Red Sox (299) and Yankees (294).
I’M FEELING ‘22: Victor Mederos made his MLB Debut on Friday night vs. Arizona…He was the Angels sixth round selection in the 2022 Draft out of Oklahoma State University…Mederos was the third player from the 2022 Draft to reach the Majors, with all of them being Angels (also, Zach Neto & Ben Joyce).
LEAGUE LEADER: As a hitter, Shohei Ohtani leads the Majors in home runs (31), total bases (217), XBH (51), slugging percentage (.670) and OPS (1.060) and is tied for the MLB lead in triples (5) and RBI (68)…On the mound, he also leads the Majors in opponent batting average (.180), ranks third in strikeouts (127) and is sixth in WHIP (1.04).
REID THIS: Yesterday was the fifth straight game for Reid Detmers with 8+ strikeouts and two-or-fewer runs allowed…The only other player in Angels history with such a streak was Nolan Ryan (seven games; his final three games in 1972 and first four in 1973).
ESTÉVEZ ENDING: This season, Carlos Estévez is pitching to a 1.85 ERA (34 IP – 7 ER) and has converted all 21 of his save opportunities…He holds the franchise record for consecutive save chances converted to begin a season (previously Lee Smith converted his first 19 chances in 1995)…The only player in Angels history with a longer save streak without a blown save at any point in a season is Francisco Rodriguez (25 game streak in 2008 and a 22 game streak spanning 2005-06).

Padres fall 4-3 to Reds and lose the series
- The Padres, trailing by 2 runs going into the 8th, tied the game on back-to-back home runs from Ha-Seong Kim and Fernando Tatis Jr…but in the 9th, with 2 outs in the inning, reliever Nick Martinez allowed a 2-run homer to pinch-hitter Tyler Stephenson…San Diego countered with a run from a 2-out rally with a Gary Sanchez single and Jake Cronenworth’s 2-out, RBI double…but he was left stranded at second with Rougned Odor’s line drive out to 2B.
- Starter Adrian Morejon went 3.0 innings of scoreless ball with just 2 hits allowed…Pedro Avila also followed Tim Hill in relief, and he went 3.0 scoreless with 1 hit allowed and 4 SO.
Friars go 1-5 on road-trip, have lost 10 of 13 games
- The Padres return home to Petco Park today having gone 1-5 on their 6-game trip and having lost 10 of their last 13 games… they snapped their season-long 6-game skid on Saturday @ Cincinnati, but with Sunday’s loss, they’ve now lost 4 straight series.
- The Padres have yet to have a winning streak of longer than 3 games so far, and they have yet to sweep a team in a series longer than 2 games…San Diego hasn’t been at .500 since May 11 (19-19).

Blake Snell: June’s National League Pitcher of the Month
- Prior to his start today, Blake Snell was named as June’s NL Pitcher of the Month, his 3rd-career Pitcher of the Month Award and his 1st in the NL (won with TB in August & September 2018)…he is the 2nd straight Padres pitcher to win, following his rotation-mate Michael Wacha, who won for May…it is the 3rd time the Padres have had consecutive winners, but the 1st time with different pitchers: Randy Jones won in April and May of his 1976 Cy Young Award-winning season, while Jake Peavy won for August and September of his Cy Young Award-winning season in 2007.
- Snell went 3-1 with a 0.87 ERA over 5 June starts, and in 31.0 innings, he surrendered 3 runs on just 13 hits with 8 walks, 53 strikeouts, and .124 opponent average…his last outing was his career-long 6th straight quality start and his 4th consecutive outing with at least 10 strikeouts.
