Patrick Wisdom launched a home run for the third-straight game and Cody Bellinger immediately followed Wisdom with a homer of his own to seal the Cubs win … it was the second set of back-to-back home runs for the Cubs this season (also Happ and Suzuki, April 14 at LAD).

EASY AS 1-2-3: The Cubs yesterday picked up their third series win of the season, in the fifth series of the year … the Cubs previously won three series this early in the season in 2020, when they did so in the third set (July 31-Aug. 2) … in 2022, it took until the 11th series (May 13-15) and until the 10th series (May 4-5) in 2021 to register their third series victory … the last time Chicago picked up four series at this point in the season was the 2020 campaign, when they did so Aug. 2-4, in the fourth series of the year.

With the win yesterday at Los Angeles, the Cubs earned their third consecutive series win … the previous time the Chicago picked up three-straight series victories was Sept. 19-Oct. 2, 2022 (4 sets), against Miami (2-1), Pittsburgh (3-1), Philadelphia (3-0) and Cincinnati (3-0).

10 KKKKs: Cubs pitching has recorded at least 10 strikeouts in each of the last four games … the previous time Chicago’s pitching staff had at least 10 Ks in four consecutive games was June 26-20, 2022 … the last such streak of five games or more was April 5-12, 2021 (7 games).

HE’S UN-BELLI-VABLE: Cubs center fielder Cody Bellinger in his last 10 games, dating to April 4, is hitting .316 (12-for-38) with two doubles, two homers, six RBI, nine runs scored and a .372 on-base percentage, after starting the season 1-for-15 (.067) … in that span, Bellinger ranks sixth among N.L. outfielders in batting average … in his last five games, he is hitting .368 (7-for-19) with a .409 OBP and a .737 slugging percentage.

THE LEIT SHOW IS SHINING: Cubs reliever Mark Leiter Jr. this season has made seven appearances (6.1 IP) without allowing a run and has surrendered just three hits while striking out 12 batters … 10 of his 12 punchouts have come against lefties, which paces all major league relievers.

He ranks second with 12 K’s among N.L. relievers who have yet to give up a run … ranks tied for third among N.L. relievers with 17.08 strikeouts per nine innings pitched (min. 5 G).

CATCH HIM IF YOU CAN: Nico Hoerner Saturday recorded his eighth stolen base of the season, in the team’s 13th game, becoming just the second Cub (since 1901) to steal eight bags by the team’s 13th contest … in 1907, Jimmy Slagle picked up eight stolen bases in the team’s first 12 games … Slagle notched his ninth stolen base in team-game number 15. SO FAR, A RELIEF: Cubs hitters have posted a .291 average (57-for-196) against relief pitchers this season, the highest mark in the majors … Chicago’s .361 on-base percentage against bullpen arms ranks third-best in the majors.

ABOUT THE ROTATION: Cubs starting pitchers have a 3.11 ERA (25 ER/72.1 IP) in the season’s early going, tied for the best mark in the N.L. and third in the majors … through the first 14 games of last season, the rotation had a 6.08 ERA (and a 4.00 ERA through the first 15 games of last year).

In fact, Cubs pitching as a whole has posted a 3.58 ERA, good for seventh best in the majors and second best in the N.L.

‘PENNING SOME THOUGHTS: Chicago’s bullpen has tossed 53.1 innings thus far, tied for the fourth-fewest innings in the majors … Twins relievers have thrown the fewest with 47.2 frames, followed by the Dodgers (51.0) and the Brewers (51.2) … Chicago’s relievers have recorded 11.47 strikeouts per nine innings and a 30.6% strikeout rate, both the best marks in baseball.

LET ME SHARE SOME WISDOM: Patrick Wisdom yesterday blasted a go-ahead solo home run, his third long-ball in as many games … since the start of the 2021 season, Wisdom has averaged one home run every 14.47 at-bats, the third-best rate among N.L. hitters with at least 900 plate appearances (Kyle Schwarber, 12.08, and Pete Alonso, 14.33).

Wisdom’s 59 homers since the start of the 2021 season are tied for the 10thmost among N.L. hitters.
