THE LATEST: The Blue Jays were limited to three hits as they were blanked, 5-0, by the Red Sox last night…Marked their 3rd time being shut out this season, tied for the fewest in the AL…All three 0’s have come in the last 10 games, after going 91 games without any…Have slipped to 13-14 in series openers, dropping each of the last four such contests. Toronto has gone 16-11 over its last 27 games and is 19-13 over the last 32…Toronto’s .594 win% over that span (since May 26) is 2nd best in the AL (1st: TB – .606)…Its .593 win% in June (16-11) was 2nd best in the junior circuit, trailing Tampa Bay’s .630 (17-10).

CANADA DAY CONTENT: The Blue Jays have posted an overall record of 16-27 in Canada Day contests…Won last season’s match, 9-2, over the Rays here in Toronto, which was the first Canada Day game in Canada since 2019…Are 14-17 at home (2-7 at Exhibition Stadium; 12-9 at Rogers Centre; 0-1 at Sahlen Field) while 2-10 on the road… Did not play a game on Canada Day in 1981, 1993, and 2020…Have gone 2-5 in their seven July 1 games vs. Boston…The seven games are their most vs. any

BUNTING WITH THE BEST: Daulton Varsho went 1-for-3 on a bunt single last night…His six bunt hits lead all AL batters, behind only TJ Friedl (8) for the most in MLB…Has hits in each of the last four games, going 4-for-14 (.286) with two doubles and an RBI.

SANTI SWINGING IT: Santiago Espinal had Toronto’s 1st hit last night as he ripped a single to left field in the 3rd inning…Is now 6-for-20 (.300) with a trio of doubles and a pair of RBI over his last seven contests (.841 OPS).

BO KNOWS BASE HITS: Bo Bichette managed a walk in an 0-for-3 evening… Currently leads the AL with 110 hits, 12 more than any other batter, trailing only Luis Arraez (115) for the most in the Majors…His .316 batting average is percentage points back of Austin Hays (.316) for the AL lead while he sits 3rd in total bases (174), T-6th in SLG (.500), 9th in OPS (.846), T-9th in XBH (35), T-13th in doubles (20), and T-14th in home runs (14).

KIRKY CLICKING: Alejandro Kirk singled to lead off the 8th inning last night, finishing the game 1-for-3…Over his last 29 games, has batted .286 (26-for-91) with three doubles, a homer, and 10 RBI.

THE D-JAYS: According to Sports Info Solutions, Toronto fielders have recorded a total of 44 Defensive Runs Saved, the most in the Majors (2nd: MIL – 40)…The group is led by an MLB-high 20 runs saved in center field – 13 from Kevin Kiermaier who leads all MLB center fielders and seven from Daulton Varsho (T-3rd).

STARTING SOMETHING: Toronto pitchers have combined for 40 quality starts, tied for the most in the Majors…The starting rotation ranks 3rd in the Majors in strikeouts (474), 4th in innings pitched (456.1), 8th in ERA (3.96), 10th inAVG (.242), and 13th in WHIP (1.27).
