METSCELLANEOUS: The Mets fell to the Braves, 7-0, last night…The Mets continue a 10-day, 10-game homestand (2-2) against the Cubs (2-1), Braves (0- 1) and Pirates (three games).
HERE COMES YOUR 27TH MAN: RHP Reed Garrett will serve as the 27th man for both games of the doubleheader…The 30-year-old has appeared in three games with the Mets this season…In 25 games at Triple-A between the Mets and Orioles, Garrett has posted a 5-1 record with a 2.45 ERA (8 ER/29.1 IP) with 14 walks and 33 strikeouts.
REYES ON SUNSHINE: RHP Denyi Reyes is expected to start game one of today’s doubleheader…The 26 year-old has appeared in six games with the Mets this year, making one start…He has struck out eight in 7.1 innings…In 15 games (13 starts) at Triple-A this season, Reyes is 1-2 with a 6.05 ERA (41 ER/64.0 IP) with 24 walks and 50 strikeouts.
JUST PEACHY: The Mets and Braves will play their second doubleheader against each other this season…The two teams split a twinbill on May 1, with the Mets losing game one, 9-8, and won, 5-3 in the nightcap…The two teams played two doubleheaders last year, on May 3 in New York and again on August 6 in New York…The Mets swept both twinbills…Prior to that, the Mets and Braves had split each of their previous three doubleheaders…The Mets have not been swept by the Braves in a doubleheader since they dropped both games on September 8, 2011 in New York.
DOUBLE DARE: The Mets are set to play their fourth doubleheader of the season today…The team split a twinbill on May 1 vs. Atlanta, were swept by the Tigers in Detroit on May 3 and swept a twinbill against the Guardians in New York on May 21…The Mets have played 27 double dips since 2021, more than any other team in the majors…The Mets have earned at least a split in 26 of those 27 twinbills over the last two years…New York has swept eight of their last 14 doubleheaders, including one this year and five DH sweeps last season.
PUT ME IN COACH, I CAN PLAY..: Yesterday, Jeff McNeil played center field for the first time in his major league career…McNeil appeared at the position only once in professional baseball…On August 25, 2013, the left-handed hitter entered the game as a defense replacement, playing the final 2.0 innings in center for the Kingsport Mets in a 15-0 loss…According to Baseball Reference, McNeil played 21 games in center field in college at Long Beach State.
JEFF McHITS: In 19 games since July 21, Jeff McNeil is batting .288 (21-73) with 12 runs, two doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 RBI, five walks with a .366 OBP and a .425 SLG…In 25 games (106 plate appearances) following the AllStar break, McNeil has struck out seven times…He is batting .345 (121-351) in 97 games against NL East foes since the start of 2022…He is hitting .356 (31-87) against the Braves in that span.
THE EAST IS A BEAST: The Mets are 16-15 against the NL East this season…The team has posted a 4.05 ERA against their division, while hitting .242/.328/.393.
AW SNAP: Francisco Lindor’s consecutive game streak was snapped at 223 games last night…It was the longest streak in franchise history…José Reyes previously held the Mets’ record with 200 consecutive games played from 2005-06.
SEVENTH HEAVEN: Francisco Lindor owns a seven-game hitting streak, batting .440 (11-25) with six runs, two doubles, one home run, four RBI, three walks with a .500 OBP and a .640 SLG in that span…He has safely hit in 11 of his last 12 games, batting .409 (18-44) with 11 runs, three doubles, three home runs, seven RBI, six walks, with a .490 OBP, a .682 SLG and a 1.172 OPS.
LINSANITY: Over his last 44 games, Lindor is batting .304 (40-161) with 34 runs, eight doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 25 walks, 12 steals with a .400 OBP, a .565 SLG and a .965 OPS…Lindor has stolen 18 bases in 112 games this season, exceeding his total from 2022 (16 steals in 161 games)…His career-best is 25 steals 158 games in 2018.
FOR PETE’S SAKE: Pete Alonso became the first Met to record four seasons with 35 or more home runs…He is third in the majors and second in the Senior Circuit with 35 home runs…He is third in the majors and second in the NL with 87 RBI.
HEY NINETEEN: Alonso is hitting .329 (24-73) with 14 extra-base hits, 25 RBI, 13 runs, eight walks and a 1.193 OPS in his last 20 games…He was hitting .132 (12-91) with seven extra-base hits and a .549 OPS over his previous 25 games (since his return from the IL on June 18-19).
