LANSING, Mich. – Jim Ananich will step down as chair of the Michigan Gaming Control Board on Aug. 1, the agency announced Friday.
Executive Director Henry Williams said Ananich’s resignation concludes more than a year of service in the role, praising his leadership and public‑sector experience.
“On behalf of the entire Board and staff, I want to sincerely thank Jim Ananich for his service and contributions to the Michigan Gaming Control Board,” Williams said. “His leadership, legislative experience, and commitment to public accountability have been a tremendous asset to the Board.”
Ananich, a former Michigan Senate minority leader, state representative and Flint City Council president, currently serves as president and CEO of the Greater Flint Health Coalition and lectures on state and local government at the University of Michigan‑Flint.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed Ananich as board chair in April 2025 to a term scheduled to run through Dec. 31, 2028. The MGCB did not announce a successor.
