FLUSHING, N.Y., – The New York Mets today announced the club has claimed RHP Jake Reed off waivers from Tampa Bay. He will report to Miami to be part of New York’s taxi squad.
Reed, 28, has appeared in six games, one start with the Los Angeles Dodgers this year. He has allowed five hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out five over 5.1 innings. He began the year in the Angels organization, before signing with the Dodgers on June 4. Reed was designated for assignment and claimed by Tampa Bay on July 25. He was designated by the Rays on July 30.
In 18 minor league games this season, the 6-2, 195-pounder has struck out 28 in 22.1 innings, earned one save with a 5.24 ERA. Overall, he is 19-14 with 22 saves, 360 strikeouts and a 3.72 ERA (142 earned runs/344.0 innings) in 234 minor league games.
