MBB-FBS: Northern Illinois Huskies (11-16) at Ohio Bobcats (16-11)

The Northern Illinois University men’s basketball team faces the Ohio Bobcats on Tuesday, February 21, in the first of its two remaining road games. The game will be broadcast live in Athens at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+, 94-9 WDKB, and The Varsity Network app.

Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook, Ill.) moved into 10th place on NIU’s all-time assists list with his seven against Miami, passing Carl Armato (284 – 1979-80, 81-84). Thornton has 286 career assists. The Bolingbrook, Sick., local likewise moved into the single-season top-10 against Miami, as his 119 helps this season is the seventh-best imprint in Huskie history.

On Saturday against the RedHawks, Anthony Crump (Inkster, Mich.) recorded his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Crump is the only Huskie to have played in all 27 games this season. Over the last three games, he has been averaging 14.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Crump ranks fourth in the MAC in field goal percentage (62.9%) and 14th in rebounding (5.6 boards per game) in conference play.

On Tuesday in Athens, the Huskies will be aiming for their seventh victory on the road of the season. NIU’s six road victories this season rank third in the MAC, behind only Toledo and Kent State, with Ball State.

The Bobcats’ overall record is 16-11 and their conference record is 8-6. Ohio has won five games in a row, the most recent of which was a 76-59 victory over Central Michigan on February 18. Ohio has four players scoring in the double digits, with Dwight Wilson leading the way with 15.6 points per game. Additionally, Wilson is averaging 9.3 rebounds per game, which ranks third in the MAC. Jaylin Hunter scores 12.5 points per game on average; Miles Brown contributes 10.8 points to each game, and AJ Brown contributes 10.0 points to each game.

On February 7, Ohio defeated NIU 82-76 in the season opener in DeKalb.
