Torero Stadium | San Diego, California – Sunday, June 11 at 5:00 PM ET
Players to watch:
San Diego has relied on some late game heroics in their last two times out, first from forward Alex Morganwho tallied a late equalizer against Kansas City to rescue a point, then from forward Taylor Kornieck who scored twice in the final 10 minutes for San Diego against Portland on Wednesday to earn the Wave a point. Kornieck has scored three goals in all competitions this season, with all three coming against the Thorns.
Not a single Reign player had more than one shot in the team’s 1-0 loss to Chicago on Saturday. It was just the fourth time the club had played in an NWSL match and had zero players with multiple shots with the most recent prior game being against the Courage in April 2018. That side, OL Reign has been a side privy to keep the scoreline low as is, with the club only scoring two goals in their last five matches and just five goals in their seven games in the regular season to date.
Match facts: San Diego remains home after a thrilling draw with Portland to host OL Reign at Torero Stadium on Saturday night still riding a two-game unbeaten streak after two consecutive draws. The Reign enter in off the back of that narrow defeat to Chicago, though they had won their two matches prior (including one against San Diego) and had been on a five-game unbeaten run of their own.
San Diego became the fourth team in NWSL history to overcome a two-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes of a match to earn a point in their 2-2 draw with the Thorns on Wednesday. The Wave joined Orlando, who did so against Washington on May 28, as well as Chicago and Sky Blue in 2013, who both did so against FC Kansas City.
OL Reign has yet to win an away match this season after playing three road games (D1 L2). The 0.33 points per away games played is second fewest behind the Current, who have one point in four away game (D1 L3, 0.25 points per game).
San Diego did lose to the Reign just over a week ago, though, on a second half goal by midfielder Rose Lavelle. Including the Challenge Cup, San Diego has conceded five goals while scoring just two in the three meetings between the teams (D1 L2).
