Malta Gaming Authority Warns About Fraudulent Websites Claiming MGA Affiliation

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has identified and published a list of websites falsely claiming affiliation with the regulator. The MGA has made it clear that it has no connection to these domains and that the operators behind them are unlicensed, despite their claims.

Deceptive Websites Mislead Customers
The MGA has once again flagged online gaming platforms that falsely associate themselves with the authority. The latest list includes four websites under the NagaCash brand and an online betting agency:

These websites have been accused of making “false and misleading” claims about their affiliation with the MGA or their licensing status. The regulator urges players not to trust these platforms’ assertions.

Importance of Consumer Vigilance
The MGA strongly advises consumers to verify the legitimacy of any gaming platform they interact with. Licensed platforms adhere to strict regulations designed to protect players, while unlicensed websites lack these protections and can expose users to financial risks, identity theft, and gambling-related harm. To confirm whether a gaming service is legal and licensed, consumers can refer to the MGA’s licensee register available on its official website.

Enhancing Oversight in 2025
Last month, the MGA announced plans to strengthen its regulatory oversight in 2025, outlining key priorities such as compliance, player protection, and sports betting integrity. The MGA’s objectives for the year include reallocating resources to high-risk areas, improving regulatory interventions, fostering transparency and collaboration with operators, and maintaining adaptability in the fast-evolving gaming sector.

Other Malta-Related News: Yorgen Fenech Granted Bail
Separately, Yorgen Fenech, a casino mogul and owner of Portomaso Casino and Qawra Oracle Casino in Malta, was recently granted bail in connection with a high-profile murder case. Fenech is a suspect in the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, who investigated corruption involving Maltese politicians and businessmen. Caruana Galizia was killed in a car bombing after uncovering significant findings in her work, a case that drew international attention and influenced regulatory decisions in other countries.
The MGA continues to prioritize consumer protection and transparency in the gaming sector, ensuring that all operators comply with its strict regulatory standards. Players are urged to remain cautious and informed when engaging with online platforms.
