LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Edgardo Henriquez and optioned right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius. In order to make room for Henriquez, the Dodgers transferred right-handed pitcher Gavin Stone to the 60-day injured list.
Henriquez, 22, joins the Dodgers for the first time in his career. The Venezuelan native began the season with Low-A Rancho Cucamonga, posting a 1.74 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 10.1 innings in five games. He was moved to High-A Great Lakes on May 8 and went 0-1 with a 2.92 ERA and 25 strikeouts in eight games. He moved to Double-A Tulsa on June 11, allowing six runs in 17.2 innings with 24 strikeouts. His last move was to Triple-A Oklahoma City on August 6 and went 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 14 games. He missed the whole 2023 season recovering from elbow surgery and has been with the organization four seasons since signing as an international free agent on September 25, 2018 out of Cumana, Venezuela. In four seasons, he is a combined 7-10 with a 4.05 ERA and 212 strikeouts in 153.1 innings.
Casparius, 25, pitched three innings and recorded his first Major League win on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies. On the season, he is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA with five strikeouts in 4.0 innings. He holds a 4-3 record in 16 games (14 starts) and a 3.36 ERA (25 ER/67.0 IP) with 72 strikeouts with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He was promoted from Double-A Tulsa on May 7 after going 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA in five games. He has spent four minor league seasons in the Dodgers’ organization, going 14-17 in 79 games (57 starts) with 346 strikeouts against 150 walks. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Connecticut.
