Los Angeles Dodgers activate Freddie Freeman

LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers activated first baseman Freddie Freeman and designated infielder/outfielder Cavan Biggio for assignment.

Freeman, 34, returns after missing eight games on the family emergency list. He is slashing .288/.395/.493 with 16 homers and 67 RBI this season. He is one double shy from becoming the 66th player in Major League Baseball history to amass 500 career two-baggers. He is in his 15th season and has notched 2,223 hits with 1,210 RBI and 1,280 runs while batting .301 in 1,989 games. He was originally drafted in the second round of the 2007 First Year Player Draft out of El Modena High School.

Biggio, 29, hit .192 with three homers and 10 RBI in 30 games for the Dodgers after being acquired on June 12 from Toronto. On the season, he hit a combined .197 with five homers and 19 RBI in 79 games. He has been in the Majors parts of six seasons with Toronto (2019-24) and Los Angeles-NL (2024) and has amassed 51 homers and 186 RBI in 520 games. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the fifth round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Notre Dame.
