KSA Fines Techno Offshore Limited $1.3M for Unlicensed Gambling Operations

Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Netherlands’ gambling regulator, has levied a substantial EUR 1.2 million ($1.31 million) fine against Techno Offshore Limited for offering unlicensed gambling services. In an official announcement, KSA emphasized that unregulated gaming operations in the country are strictly prohibited, reaffirming its commitment to protecting Dutch players from unauthorized online casinos.

Techno Offshore Limited’s Violations
According to KSA, Techno Offshore Limited facilitated illegal gambling through its nolimitbet.com and simplecasino.com platforms. The regulator found that the company failed to implement adequate measures to prevent Dutch players from accessing its services. Furthermore, these websites included prohibited mechanics such as autoplay and turboplay, features that are banned in the Netherlands for their potential to encourage excessive spending among vulnerable individuals.

Adding to these violations, Techno Offshore Limited’s platforms lacked visible age verification during registration, raising significant concerns about player safety and responsible gaming practices.

Chairman Michel Groothuizen’s Statement
Michel Groothuizen, chairman of KSA, expressed his determination to hold offshore operators accountable. He stated that unlicensed companies pose significant risks by attracting players to illegal gambling environments that fail to meet the stringent standards for player protection set by the Netherlands.

“Offshore operators are unfair competitors who neglect the safeguards established to protect players from gambling addiction,” Groothuizen noted. “We take firm action against entities that promote illegal offerings and leave players inadequately protected.”

KSA Strengthens Market Oversight
In its continued efforts to safeguard the regulated gaming market, KSA has taken additional steps against illegal operators. Recently, the regulator targeted unauthorized betting apps that frequently appear on the PlayStore and AppStore. Since the beginning of the year, KSA has banned 20 such apps, although new ones continue to surface. These apps often misuse imagery and logos resembling licensed operators, misleading consumers and heightening risks.

KSA encourages the public to report suspicious apps and platforms, stressing the importance of collective vigilance. Reports can be made directly to the regulator.

Warnings to Licensed Operators
In related actions, KSA issued a warning to Hotel Gaming Services BV, the licensee of Circus Gran Casino gaming arcades, for breaching advertising rules. The company had featured a local ice hockey team in its promotional content, violating the prohibition against using role models that appeal to younger audiences. Similarly, Noord Zuid Alliantie, the operator of Lucky 7 Casino, was cautioned over a customer service violation.

Through these measures, KSA remains dedicated to ensuring fair competition and protecting players from exploitation. Its proactive actions reflect a robust commitment to maintaining the integrity of the Dutch gaming industry.
