Quakes acquire $200k of General Allocation Money plus incentives
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has acquired $200k of 2021 General Allocation Money (GAM) from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for defender Florian Jungwirth. The Quakes would receive an additional $100k of 2022 GAM should performance-based incentives be reached.
Jungwirth, 32, tallied five goals and 10 assists in 124 appearances (118 starts) since joining the Quakes ahead of the 2017 season. His 124 regular-season appearances rank 16th most in Quakes history, and sixth most among defenders. Jungwirth was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and 2019.
“I want to say thank you to Florian for everything he has contributed to our club over the past four and a half seasons,” said Earthquakes Technical Director Chris Leitch. “This is good opportunity for Florian personally as well as freeing up important cap space for our club moving forward. We wish him and his family the best of luck.”
Jungwirth made 13 starts in 14 total appearances for San Jose this season, tallying one assist.
