LOS ANGELES –The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to terms with Austin Barnes on a two-year contract through the 2024 season. The deal is worth $7 million guaranteed and includes charitable contributions from Barnes.
Barnes, 32, has appeared in 31 games for the Dodgers this season, hitting .179 with four homers and 12 RBI. In 26 games behind the plate, he’s thrown out five of the 14 runners (35.7%) attempting to steal. He is currently the third longest tenured Dodger on the roster, behind Clayton Kershaw and Justin Turner.
Barnes is in his eighth season with the Dodgers after being acquired from the Marlins on December 11, 2014 in a seven-player trade. In his career, he’s hit .223 (237-for-1,061) with 28 homers and 124 RBI, including a .992 fielding percentage with 3.44 CERA in 307 games behind the plate. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the ninth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Arizona State University.
