LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers activated right-handed pitcher Tommy Kahnle from the 10-day injured list and optioned left-handed pitcher Garrett Cleavinger.
Kahnle, 32, will be active for the first time since 2020 after missing all last season recovering from Tommy John surgery, which was performed in August of 2020. The New York native made one appearance in 2020, tossing 1.0 inning against the Washington Nationals on July 26. Prior to the injury, he had spent parts of seven seasons in the Major Leagues with Colorado (2014-2015), Chicago-AL (2016-17) and New York-AL (2017-2020), going a combined 9-9 with a 3.82 ERA (118 ER/277.2 IP) and 344 strikeouts in 285 career games. This season, he made eight rehab starts (three starts) for Rancho Cucamonga and Oklahoma City, allowing two runs in 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts against one walk. He was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the fifth round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft out of Lynn University.
Cleavinger, 28, has appeared in two games for the Dodgers this season, allowing one run in 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. In two seasons with the Dodgers, he is a combined 2-4 with a 3.20 ERA (7 ER/19.2 IP) and 23 strikeouts in 24 games. He was acquired by the Dodgers on December 29, 2020 in a three-team trade from Philadelphia. He was originally drafted in the third round by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon.
