LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers activated infielder Justin Turner from the injured list and optioned infielder/outfielder Miguel Vargas.
Turner, 37, was on the injured list 10 days with an abdominal strain. He has played in 86 games this season, batting .257 (80-for-311) with 22 doubles, eight homers and 54 RBI. The Southern California native has spent the last nine seasons with the Dodgers and he has slashed .295/.375/.490 with 151 homers and 547 RBI in 1,033 career games. He has been in the Major Leagues for parts of 14 seasons with Baltimore (2009-10), New York-NL (2010-13) and Los Angeles (2014-22) and has amassed 278 doubles, 159 homers and 636 RBI in his Major League career. He was signed by the Dodgers as free agent on February 6, 2014.
Vargas, 22, went 2-for-8 with two RBI in his first stint with the Dodgers. In his debut on August 3 against the Giants, he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He has hit .291 with 24 doubles, 15 homers and 72 RBI in 94 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The Cuban native has been with the Dodgers five minor league seasons, and he has hit a combined .310 (480-for-1548) with 47 homers and 255 RBI in 391 career minor league games. The Dodgers’ Branch Rickey Minor League Player of the Year in 2021, slashed .319/.380/.526 with 23 homers and 76 RBI in 120 games between High-A Great Lakes and Double-A Tulsa in 2021. He was originally signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent on September 7, 2017.
