CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed outfielder Michael Hermosillo on the 10-day injured list with a left forearm strain and selected outfielder Nick Martini from Triple-A Iowa.
Martini, 31, begins his third stint with the Cubs this season, having appeared in 12 games and going 1-for-12 with an RBI and two walks. The left-handed hitter has batted .267 (72-for-270) with nine doubles, three triples, a career-high 11 home runs and 40 RBI in 78 games with Iowa this year.
Martini has appeared in 99 career major league games with Oakland (2018-19), San Diego (2019) and the Cubs, hitting .261 (67-for-257) with 13 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 27 RBI and a .363 on-base percentage. He has appeared in 76 games in left field, three in right field and two in center field.
A native of Crystal Lake, Ill., Martini signed a minor league contract with the Cubs in January of this year after spending the 2020 campaign at the Phillies Alternate Training Site.
Hermosillo, 26, is hitting .194 (7-for-36) with two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI in 16 games for Chicago this season. In 43 games with Iowa, he has hit .306 (45-for-147) with 10 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 29 RBI and a 1.038 OPS.
