DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today they have acquired right-handed pitcher Jake Madden and left-handed pitcher Mason Albright, the Angels’ No. 8 and No. 28 prospects, respectively, according to MLB.com, from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for first baseman C.J. Cron and outfielder Randal Grichuk, along with cash considerations.

Madden, 21, was selected by the Angels in the fourth round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of Northwest Florida State College. Appearing in his first professional season this year, the 6-foot-6-inch right-hander is 2-6 with a 5.46 ERA (64.1 IP, 39 ER) and 66 strikeouts through 14 starts for Single-A Inland Empire.

Albright, 20, was selected out of IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) in the 12th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft. The left-hander pitched to a 1-0 record and did not allow a run through eight frames in the Arizona Complex League in his first professional season in 2021, before appearing at three levels of the Angels’ system in 2022. He has made 15 appearances (14 starts) for Inland Empire this season, going 9-4 with a 3.62 ERA (79.2 IP, 32 ER) and 86 strikeouts. Entering play on Sunday, he ranked second in the California League in ERA, was tied for first in wins and tied for fifth in strikeouts.

Signed by Colorado to a Minor League contract prior to the 2021 season, Cron slashed .267/.337/.492 with 68 home runs and 226 RBI through 348 games as a Rockie, earning his first career All-Star selection in 2022. He led the Rockies in home runs and RBI in both 2021 and 2022. He was originally drafted by the Angels in the first round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft and made his Major League debut for the team in 2014.

The Rockies acquired Grichuk via trade on March 23, 2022 prior to the regular season. In 204 career games as a Rockie, the outfielder slashed .275/.321/.448 with 27 home runs and 100 RBI.

The Rockies have 37 players on the 40-man roster.
