No. 2 Prospect in Baseball Agrees to Eight-Year Deal Through 2031 with Club Options for 2032 and 2033
NASHVILLE – The Milwaukee Brewers have signed outfielder Jackson Chourio (CHOO-ree-oh) to an eight-year contract through 2031 with club options for 2032 and 2033, marking an industry-record commitment for a player without any Major League experience. The announcement was made by Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Arnold from the 2023 Baseball Winter Meetings at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, TN.
“Jackson has proven to be one of the elite young prospects in all of baseball,” said Arnold. “We are extremely excited to make this unprecedented commitment to a player we believe to be a generational talent who has all the tools to be the face of our franchise. We are thrilled to have Jackson in a Brewers uniform for many years to come.”
Chourio, who turns 20 on March 11, is currently ranked as the No. 2 prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. He has been added to the 40-man roster (which can be found here) and assigned uniform No. 11. Through his first three Minor League seasons, he has hit .286/.347/.490 with 47 HR, 191 RBI and 68 stolen bases in 272 games.
In 128 games between Double-A Biloxi (122g) and Triple-A Nashville (6g) last season, Chourio hit .282/.338/.467 with 22 HR, 91 RBI and 44 stolen bases. Following the season, Chourio was named the best batting prospect and most exciting player in the Southern League by Baseball America as voted on by league managers.
Chourio earned Milwaukee’s 2023 Minor League Co-Player of the Year Award after winning the honor outright in 2022. He led the organization in hits (150), RBI (91), at-bats (531), games (128) and total bases (248). He was transferred to Class-A Wisconsin in late July of that season and played 31 games with the Timber Rattlers before concluding the year by appearing in six games at Double-A Biloxi. Chourio won a Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2022 as one of the top three defensive outfielders in Minor League Baseball. He represented the Brewers at the All-Star Futures Game in both 2022 and 2023.
