Brazil Suspends Seven Betting Operators Over Cybersecurity Compliance

The Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance has temporarily suspended seven betting companies from operating in Brazil, effective this Friday.

Among those affected are Pixbet and FlaBet, sponsors of Flamengo, which are facing an ongoing administrative review. Bet da Sorte, a sponsor of Santa Cruz-PE, has also been included in the suspension.

Following the announcement, the Ministry issued an official statement clarifying that the precautionary measure is intended to prevent suspended operators from accepting bets, processing deposits, or registering new bettors until they can provide proof of cybersecurity compliance in their operations.

Under Article 8 of Ordinance SPA/MF No. 722/2024, betting operators are required to submit a cybersecurity assessment report within 90 days of obtaining authorization. The seven suspended companies failed to meet this requirement, prompting regulatory intervention.

The Ministry emphasized that the absence of these reports poses risks to bettors’ security, the economy, anti-money laundering efforts, and tax collection procedures. The suspension applies to all authorized platforms operated by the affected companies until they resolve their compliance issues.
