Club Options Infielder/Outfielder Kristian Campbell to Triple-A Worcester
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today reinstated outfielder Wilyer Abreu from the 10-Day Injured List. To make room, the club optioned infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell to Triple-A Worcester.
Abreu, 25, was placed on the Injured List on June 9 with a left oblique strain. The left-handed hitter played in two rehab games with Triple-A Worcester, making one start as the designated hitter and one in right field. In 64 games for Boston this season, he has hit .245 (51-for-208) with 13 home runs and 32 RBI. Originally signed as an international free agent by the Houston Astros in July 2017, the Venezuela native has batted .258 (176-for-683) with 47 doubles, two triples, 30 home runs and 104 RBI over 224 career Major League games, all with the Red Sox (2023-25).
Campbell, 22, has played in 67 games this season, his Major League debut, making 54 starts at second base, seven in center field, one in left field, and one as the designated hitter. The right-handed hitter has batted .223 (51-for-229) with 10 doubles, six home runs, 24 runs scored, and 21 RBI. A Tennessee native, he was selected by Boston in the fourth round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft.
