Club options Right-Handed Pitcher Trey Wingenter to Worcester

BOSTON, MA— The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell from Triple-A Worcester. To make room on the active roster, Boston optioned right-handed pitcher Trey Wingenter to Worcester.

Criswell, 27, owns a 4.15 ERA (24 ER/52.0 IP) with 49 strikeouts in 12 games (11 starts) for Boston this season. The right-hander has also posted a 1.40 ERA (4 ER/25.2 IP) with 23 strikeouts in five games (all starts) for Worcester. He was named International League Pitcher of the Week for July 1-7 after tossing 6.0 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, one hit allowed, and one hit batsman in his most recent start on July 6 against Syracuse. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 13th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Georgia native has recorded a 4.92 ERA (49 ER/89.2 IP) in 24 career Major League games (13 starts) with the Angels (2021), Tampa Bay Rays (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024).

Wingenter, 30, was acquired by Boston in a minor league trade with the Detroit Tigers on July 6 and made his Red Sox debut on July 9, allowing three runs in 1.0 inning against the Oakland Athletics. The right-hander has also posted a 3.31 ERA (12 ER/32.2 IP) with 48 strikeouts in 26 games this season for Triple-A Toledo. Originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the 17th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, the Alabama native owns a 5.52 ERA (54 ER/88.0 IP) in 91 career Major League games (one start) with the Padres (2018-19), Tigers (2023), and Red Sox (2024).
